The Dartmouth Series
The Quakers lead the series, 27-16-3, and have won eight of the last nine meetings. That said, the teams have gone to overtime six times in that nine-game stretch with Penn winning all six.
Last Time We Met
Livia Loozen proved to be the hero in the season finale for the two teams last season, converting an
Elita Van Staden pass and going high to score in the second overtime to give Penn a 3-2 win in Hanover. The Quakers had a 2-0 lead off goals from
Maya Geller (on a penalty stroke) and
Gracyn Banks, but the Big Green responded with goals in the third and fourth quarters to force OT. Penn outshot Dartmouth, 20-14, and
Frederique Wollaert made five saves in getting the win.
The Villanova Series
Penn leads the overall series between these city foes, 20-15-2, and have won eight of the last 10 matchups. Villanova won last year at Ellen Vagelos Field, but the Quakers have won their last five trips to the Proving Grounds.
Last Time We Met
Villanova came back with a late goal in regulation to tie things up at 1-1, then scored again less than five minutes into overtime to escape Ellen Vagelos Field with a 2-1 victory. Penn had taken the lead in the third quarter when
Olivia Kenny scored off a
Julia Ryan cross. The Quakers outshot the Wildcats in the game, 15-10, and forced VU keeper Emma Leppert to make 11 saves.
Penn's Last Time Out
The Quakers ended a long, frustrating losing streak on Wednesday, knocking off Princeton in double overtime, 3-2. It was Penn's first win over the Tigers since 2004 and just the second since 1993. Penn held a 2-0 lead on goals from
Emily Stafford and
Allison Kuzyk and looked like it might be up 3-0, but a Princeton challenge on the goal was successful and took the goal off the board. Shortly afterward, the Tigers scored twice to tie things and send the game to OT. In the second period,
Sophie Freedman gathered the ball in the circle and hit a reverse shot inside the far post to end the drought.
Stat Leaders
Penn is 3-0 in Ivy League play for the first time since 2015, and you have to go back another 20 years (1995) to find the last time the Quakers were 4-0 in conference action. Kuzyk continues to lead Penn and is tied for second among Ivy League players in goals, with eight. She has scored in six straight matches and seven of the last eight for the Quakers; her current six-game streak is the longest by a Penn player since the program's all-time leading scorer, Alexa Hoover, opened the 2015 season by scoring in seven straight games. Loozen is second on the team with four goals, tying her for eighth among Ivy Leaguers.
Courtney Kenah has six assists which leads Penn and is third among Ivy players, while
Meghan McGinley has four and Ryan and
Lis Zandbergen both have three. At the other end, Wollaert is second among Ivy goalies in save percentage (.747) and third in goals-against average (1.82) and saves per game (5.90).
