THE BROWN SERIES
The Quakers have a commanding series lead against the Bears with a record of 33-8-3, riding an 11-game win streak into Saturday's matchup. Penn has a 15-5-2 record against Brown in Philadelphia, including a perfect 4-0 at Ellen Vagelos Field. The Red and Blue average just over two goals per game against the Bears in program history, with the last three meetings only being decided by one goal (each a 3-2 victory for Penn).
Â
LAST TIME WE MET
Penn battled the Bears at Ellen Vagelos Field last season, overcoming a two-goal deficit to take the 3-2 win. Brown scored two early goals in the first frame, but the Quakers didn't go away.
Allison Kuzyk netted two including the game winner, while
Sophie Freedman drew the game even early in the fourth on a penalty stroke.
Frederique Wollaert earned the win in the cage, making five saves in 60 minutes of work.
Â
THE DELAWARE SERIES
The Blue Hens hold the lead in the all-time series against the Quakers, 21-9, but they aren't the last ones to win in the matchup. Penn earned its first victory over Delaware last season, 4-1, at home, the first time defeating the Hens since 2007 and the first time at home since 1989.
Â
LAST TIME WE MET
The victory in 2022 was the final home game of the season, honoring the senior class of seven Quakers. Three of the four goals in the win were scored by seniors:
Elita Van Staden,
Julia Russo, and
Sydney Huang.
Lis Zandbergen scored the other goal, while Russo added the assist on the play to finish the day with a game-high three points. Wollaert made two saves in the net for the game.
Â
PENN'S LAST TIME OUT
The Quakers battled at then-No. 11 Harvard last Saturday, the only remaining unblemished record in the Ivy standings, dropping a 2-0 decision. Penn, who already booked its trip to the inaugural Ivy League tournament, fired off three shots in the game off the sticks of
Julia Ryan, Kuzyk and
Honor Roberts. Back in the cage, Wollaert stood strong for 60 minutes with 10 saves, the third time this season with double-digit saves. The other two times were at No. 3 Northwestern and against No. 13 Saint Joseph's.
Â
AROUND THE LEAGUE
The Quakers are one of the three teams to punch their ticket in the inaugural Ivy League Tournament, with No. 9 Harvard and No. 17 Cornell securing their spot as well. The final spot will either go to Princeton or Yale, with the last game for both programs being played against each other. The winner of that matchup will punch their ticket into the tournament.
Â
Another big matchup this weekend is No. 9 Harvard at No. 17 Cornell, the winner of that game becoming the host of the Ivy League Tournament. Seeding for all four spots will be determined after the games are complete on Saturday.
Â
STAT LEADERS
Kuzyk leads the Quakers in goals with 9 through 14 games. She also leads the team in points (19), shots (52) and shots on goal (30). Junior
Courtney Kenah has been efficient on getting the ball out to her teammates with a team-high seven assists so far. Kuzyk's goals are good for third in the Ivy League, while Kenah's seven helpers are currently in the sixth spot among all players. Senior goalie
Frederique Wollaert has 82 saves this season with a goals-against average of 1.88 and a .745 save percentage, ranking among the top three in the league.
