Softball Hosts Yale for Final Ivy Series of 2022

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team is set to host Yale for its final Ivy series of the 2022 season. The Quakers and the Bulldogs will play a three-game series at Penn Park on April 29 and 30. They will play a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and then on Saturday will play a single game at 12:30 p.m. Penn is currently 10-30 and 5-13 in Ivy play while Yale is 10-21 overall and 8-10 in Ivy contests.

Prior to the season finale on Saturday, Penn will honor its six seniors. The Class of 2022, Julia Longo, Laurel McKelvey, Emma Nedley, Corrie Phillips, Julia Schneider, and Ashley Waco, will all be honored on Saturday.

Previewing Penn
Penn is coming off a 9-8 loss to Dartmouth in its rescheduled Ivy series with the Big Green. The Quakers battled back multiple time throughout the game as there were four different lead changes and the game was tied twice. Penn attempted a comeback in the seventh inning as it got the winning run on base but fell just short. Bella Fiorentino leads the offense with a .313 average. Sarah Schneider has a team high 36 hits, 31 runs scored, 11 doubles, nine home runs, and 11 stolen bases. Fiorentino and Schneider are tied for the most RBI with 20 on the season.  
Olivia Szewczyk leads the Penn pitching with a 4.20 ERA in 33.1 innings pitched. Julia Longo has seen the most time in the circle, she is 4-15 with a 6.01 ERA in 99.0 innings pitched and has struck out a team-high 52 batters.

Previewing the Bulldogs
Yale picked up a series victory over the Cornell Big Red over the weekend. The Bulldogs picked up a 10-9 walk-off win in the 10th-inning of the series finale to clinch the series victory. They plated four runs over the final four innings as their only lead came on the final play of the game. A pair of Bulldogs are hitting above .300 as Sam Goodcase leads the team with a .381 average and Maddie Latta is hitting .302. Both have scored 15 runs and account for 58 of the teams 161 hits on the year. In the circle, Latta leads the team with a 4.60 ERA and is 4-5 in 13 appearances in 62.1 innings pitch. She leads the team with 48 strikeouts. Nicole Conway has seen the most time in the circle as she is 5-10 with a 4.89 ERA in 87.1 innings pitched in 21 appearances making 16 starts. She has both of the team saves on the season.

*On the bases, Penn has been strategic and successful as it has 30 stolen bases in 36 attempts. S. Schneider leads the team with 11 stolen bases in 12 attempts and Brianna Brown is 7-for-9.
*Penn has had six multi-homer game this season. The latest came when S. Schneider and Bella Fiorentino both connected in an 11-5 loss at Harvard. They also have recorded multiple home runs against Fresno State (Anderson, Mortimer), Utah (Fiorentino, Nedley), Delaware State (Anderson, Nedley), Columbia (S. Schneider, McKelvey), Brown (S. Schneider, Mortimer), and Cornell (S. Schneider, Phillips).
