PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania lightweight men's crew continues its cup season on Saturday, hosting Yale and Columbia in a series of races with the Dodge Cup on the line in the Varsity Eights race
Penn's Varsity Eight ranks sixth in the latest IRCA national poll, with Yale at No. 1 and Columbia at No. 7. Saturday's lightweight races will run concurrently with the Penn, Yale and Columbia heavyweights who will battle for the Blackwell Cup in their Varsity Eights race.
This is the 63rd race for the Marcellus Hartley Dodge Cup. Yale has 40 wins to lead the series, the most recent coming in 2017, followed by Penn with 15 and Columbia with seven including victories in 2018 and 2019. Penn is looking for its first win in the series since 1992.
"We are excited for Saturday's racing," said Penn's head coach,
Colin Farrell. "Yale and Columbia are both strong teams that are well coached and we know we'll get a good challenge in all boats. This cup race will be our first on the Schuylkill in two years, so it will be a great opportunity to race down our home course against strong EARC opponents and continue the storied tradition of the Dodge Cup."
Penn is looking to rebound from last weekend's losses at Cornell, whose third-ranked Varsity boat retained the Matthews Trophy.
