Softball Hosts Cornell for Second Home Ivy Series of 2022

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team is set to host its second Ivy League series of 2022 at Penn Park this weekend when the Cornell Big Red make the trip to Philadelphia. The three-game series will begin on Saturday with a doubleheader and a single game on Sunday. First pitch of both days is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
Penn enters the weekend 7-18 while Cornell is 5-11.

Previewing Penn
Penn is coming off a doubleheader loss to Lehigh on Wednesday at Penn Park. The Red and Blue rallied in game one scoring three in the bottom of the seventh to get the winning run to the plate but ultimately fell 9-6. Game two got off to a rough start as Lehigh went up 4-0 after the top of the first and then added nine more in the top of the second to jump out to an early 13-0 lead. Penn pushed a run across the plate in the bottom of the second inning to make it 13-1. Lehigh added two more in the top of the fifth inning to take the game 15-1. Dana Anderson and Sarah Schneider lead the Penn offense as they the two are leading the team.
 
Previewing the Big Red
Cornell is in the midst of a five-game road trip having just played two at Binghamton on Wednesday. Cornell won game one 11-8 and then was leading game two 11-10 in the third inning but was called for due to darkness in the third. Four players have double-digit hit totals, as Lilly Travieso leads the team with 13 hits. Emily McKinney is the only player with double-digit RBI totals with a 10. Mia Burd has pitched the most innings with 44 and is 3-4 with a 4.45 ERA, striking out 15 and walking 11.  

PENN NEWS AND NOTES
*Dana Anderson leads the team in batting average (.342), hits (25), and RBI (15).
*On the bases, Penn has been strategic and successful as it has 16 stolen bases in 20 attempts.
*Penn has had five multi-homer game this season. The latest came when S. Schneider (2) and Mortimer both connected in Penn's 3-0 win in the final game at Brown. They also have recorded multiple home runs against Fresno State (Anderson, Mortimer), Utah (Fiorentino, Nedley), Delaware State (Anderson, Nedley), and Columbia (S. Schneider, McKelvey).
