Softball Hosts Lehigh for Wednesday Doubleheader

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team will host the Lehigh Mountain Hawks for a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Penn Park.
Penn is currently 7-16 while Lehigh enters the weekend with an overall record of 8-11.

Previewing Penn
Penn picked up an Ivy series victory at Brown over the weekend, splitting Saturday's doubleheader and winning on Sunday. The Red and Blue won game one 7-2. Sarah Schneider hit her first of three solo home runs on the weekend for the eventual game-winning run in the victory. Senior pitcher Julia Longo went the distance pitching seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking two. The Quakers took the series finale on Sunday as they blasted three solo shots for a 3-0 victory. Julia Mortimer hit what proved to be the game-winning home run in the second inning, her second of the season. She brought her total to six home runs on the season. Bella Fiorentino pitched a complete game shutout allowing just two hits. She did not allow a hit for the first 4.1 innings and was named the Ivy League Pitcher of the Week.

Previewing the Mountain Hawks
Lehigh opened its conference play last weekend with an interrupted series against Army. The Mountain Hawks won game one 6-1 and were had a 4-3 lead in the second game before weather forced the suspension of the rest of the game. Jaelyn Chesson leads the team with 17 hits, five home runs, 14 RBI, and 37 total bases. Carley Barjaktarovich and Brooke Cannon both lead the team with nine stolen bases. Cannon is 9-for-9 while Barjaktarovich is 9-for-10. As a team, Lehigh is 23-for-27 in stolen bases. In the circle, Gabriella Nori leads the pitching staff with a 3.48 ERA as she has given up 25 runs on 46 hits and struck out 54 while walking just four batters in 48.1 innings pitched.

*Dana Anderson leads the team in batting average (.338) and hits (23). She and S. Schneider share the lead for most RBI with 13.
*On the bases, Penn has been strategic and successful as it has 16 stolen bases in 19 attempts.
*Penn had its fifth multi-homer game as S. Schneider (2) and Mortimer both connected in Penn's 3-0 win at Brown on Sunday. They also have recorded multiple home runs against Fresno State (Anderson, Mortimer), Utah (Fiorentino, Nedley), Delaware State (Anderson, Nedley), and Columbia (S. Schneider, McKelvey).
