PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team heads east to Providence, Rhode Island for a three-game series at Brown University this weekend. The Quakers and the Bears will play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. Both days are set for a first pitch of 12:30 p.m.
Penn is currently 5-15 while Brown enters the weekend with an overall record of 6-12.

Previewing Penn
Penn went 3-2 on last week, starting with a doubleheader sweep at Delaware State on Wednesday and ending with an Ivy League win over Columbia on Sunday. In Game 1 at DSU, the Quakers won 7-1 as they capitalized on Hornets errors and hit a pair of home runs. The second game saw Penn win 4-0, as
Payton Bean and
Rachel Riley combined on the shutout in the circle and
Alyssa Pope score what proved to be the game-winning run on a passed ball. Penn went 1-2 against Columbia in its first Ivy series of the season, recovering from a Saturday sweep to take Sunday's finale, 5-3.
Sarah Schneider hit three home runs against the Lions, while
Laurel McKelvey went deep in Game 1 on Saturday. Bean went six innings for the win on Sunday, giving up three runs, and
Julia Longo came in in the seventh to earn the save. Last week,
Sarah Schneider went 8-for-16 with six runs, 5 RBI, and 3 HR to earn Ivy League Player of the Week honors.
Previewing the Bears
Brown is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Holy Cross on Tuesday beginning with a 16-2 five-inning victory in game one. They shutout the Crusaders 2-0 in game two. Brown has many players leading different offensive categories as no one leads more than three categories. Alexis Guevara has the highest batting average with a .286. Kat Clum is one of three with double digit hits with 12 and Guevara and Leah Carey both have 11 hits. Laurel Moody has three home runs, seven RBI, and 18 totals bases leading the Bears in all three categories. In the circle, Brown has two pitchers who have pitched more than 20 innings, Guevara leads the team with 28 innings pitched and Lauren Innerst has pitched 22 innings. In six appearances, Erin Elgas has a 0.48 ERA. As a team, the Bears has a 2.76 ERA and have 56 strike outs in 111.2 innings.
