RALEIGH, N.C. – The University of Pennsylvania track and field teams wrapped up a three-day trip to the Raleigh Relays on this weekend in North Carolina, as the Quakers had a handful of great performances headed by a top finish in the men's javelin and a program record by
Skyla Wilson.
The top finish in the javelin was by
Marc Minichello, earning first place in the javelin with a throw of 73.35m (240-7), over three meters further than the second place finisher.
Wilson, who had a stellar indoor season, has proven the same success on the outdoor track. On Friday night, she set another program record, clocking a time of 13.52 in the 100m hurdles to take third place.
She was not alone in record book movements over the three-day stretch. On the men's side, there was two top five times in program history by
Ray Sellaro and
James Lee in the 1,500m. On the women's side, Wilson was joined by
Aliya Garozzo with record marks.
In the 1,500m, Sellaro took 10th with a time of 3:41.69 and Lee followed in with a time of 3:43.84. The duo's times mark them third and fourth in program history, respectively.
Wilson set another top 10 time in the 200m, coming through in seventh place with a time of 24.26 to move into eighth in program history. Garozzo made her move in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in seventh with a time of 1:01.43 for seventh in history.
The Quakers had many other great marks throughout the weekend as well.
At the shot put,
Olatide Abinusawa earned 14th with a throw of 16.64m while
Cameron Landis took 17th with a distance of 16.41m.
Michael Keehan earned himself a fifth place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase, setting a new personal record of 8:47.84 to hold him at sixth in program history.
On the women's side,
Abby Norwillo and
Natalia Ilieva each cleared 3.60m in the pole vault. Norwillo earned fifth, clearing it earlier than Ilieva who took 11th. At throws,
Kirstin West and
Haley Rizek wrapped up the day in the javelin. West took 14th with a throw of 42.11m (138-2), and Rizek took 28th with a toss of 35.47m (116-4). At the high jump,
Addie Renner earned a third place mark of 1.70m (5-7), while
Mayyi Mahama took fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 61.17m (200-8).
The Quakers return home to host the Big 5 meet on Saturday, April 2.
