PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team is set for its home opener and Ivy League opener this weekend when its hosts the Columbia Lions at Penn Park for a three-game series. The Lions and the Quakers were picked to finish one and two in the standings, respectively, as announced by the League office prior to the start of the season. Penn is currently 4-13 while Columbia is 2-12.

Previewing Penn
Penn returned to the win column as it swept a doubleheader at Delaware State on Wednesday. The Red and Blue took the first game 7-1 and then
Payton Bean and
Rachel Riley teamed up to throw a combined 4-0 shutout in game two.
Dana Anderson leads the Penn offense as she has a .340 average and leads the team with 17 hits, 11 RBI, and four home runs.
Emma Nedley and
Bella Fiorentino have two home runs each and
Julia Mortimer has one on the season as Penn has hit nine home runs.
Sarah Schneider has been the led the base running game for Penn as she has a team leading six stolen bases in seven attempts. In total, the Quakers have 13 stolen bases on 15 attempts.
Previewing the Lions
Columbia has started the season, 2-12. Currently riding a five-game losing streak, The Lions are coming off back-to-back run rule losses to Cal Baptist (8-0), and Loyola Marymount (9-1), both games went six innings. Abby Stuart leads the Lions offense with a .341 average, as well as hits (15), RBI (6), and total bases (19). Jordan Hill leads the team with a 3.86 ERA in 32.2 innings pitched. She has 16 strike outs and 16 walks as her opponents have a .264 average against her.
