Baseball Kicks Off Home Schedule With Monmouth Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA – After going 5-4 over their 10-day Spring Break trip through South Carolina, the University of Pennsylvania baseball team welcomes Monmouth University to Meiklejohn Stadium for its 2022 home opener Wednesday afternoon, the first of five straight home games for the Quakers.
 
Penn started its extended road trip 1-3 against Wofford, including a pair of one-run losses, then responded with a 4-1 mark over the final five games, outscoring The College of Charleston and Winthrop 36-21 in those five games.

The Series: Monmouth
The Hawks have won seven of 10 all-time, including the most recent meeting in April 2019.

Jackson Appel hit .455 (10-for-22) during the Quakers' 4-1 stretch to end the South Carolina trip, raising his season average more than 100 points. Appel scored seven runs, stole three bases without being caught and struck out just one time over the five-game stretch.
 
It's (Ben) Miller Time
Batting in the clean-up spot for the final six games of the South Carolina trip, Ben Miller hit .292 with a pair of home runs, five RBI, and seven runs scored, with five of his seven hits going for extra bases.

It's (Joe) Miller Time
Joe Miller allowed a single earned run over 6.2 innings of work on Sunday while striking out five, picking up his second win of the season. The southpaw's dominant performance lowered his season by more than a full run.
 
Scouting Monmouth
The Hawks are 7-7 after being swept by VCU in a doubleheader on Sunday.
 
Jake Catalano is the lone everyday player hitting over .300, Dixon Black is hitting .293 with three home runs and a team-best 14 RBI, Alex Barker is hitting .292 with a team-best .944 OPS, and James Harmstead has 13 RBI and a team-best five home runs.
 
The teams three main starting pitchers (Trey Dromboski, Dan Klepchick, and Rob Hensey) all have ERA's under 4.30. Dromboski's 3-0 on the young season with a 1.73 ERA, Klepchick is 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA; Hensey has allowed a .272 batting average, but struck out a team-high 30 batters.
