UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The University of Pennsylvania track and field teams traveled up to Happy Valley on Saturday for the Sykes Sabock Challenge, hosted by Penn State.
Â
The Quakers made a lot of movement in the program record books, 13 to be exact, while the women's team collected three top finishes for the meet.
Â
Caia Gelli made the most noise at the meet for the record book, having successful finishes in two individual events and teaming up in the 4x400 relay. At the 200m, she earned first place by clocking a time of 24.29. The time is good enough to move her up one spot to fifth in the record book, after earning the sixth best mark last week at the Villanova Invitational. She followed it up with a fifth-place finish in the 400m with a time of 56.22 for 10th in program history.
Â
She didn't finish too far behind teammate
Skyla Wilson, who cruised to a top finish in the 400m, crossing the finish line at 54.58. Although the time ranks in the top 10, Wilson already owns the second-best time in the record book with a 54.38 back in 2020.
Â
The duo teamed up with
Kayla Lee and
Jocelyn Niemiec in the 4x400 relay, taking first place with a time of 3:45.00 flat, a finish good enough to place them fifth in program history.
Â
Katherine Muccio had another great showing in the 60m hurdles, finishing sixth with an 8.74, moving her into a tie for seventh in the record book with teammate
Haley Rizek.
Â
In the field events,
Tamara Grahovac landed at 11.78m on her fourth attempt in the triple jump, improving her personal best to solidify her spot at 10th in program history.
Mayyi Mahama threw for the first time this indoor season, tossing 18.93m on her fifth attempt in the weight throw to finish third. The toss was a top-10 finish, but she already owns the program record with 21.76m in 2020.
Â
On the men's side, the record book was reworked in three different events: 800m, mile, and 60m hurdles.
Â
In the 800m, three Quakers moved into the top 10 in program history.
Edwin Klanke finished eighth to lead the trio in, clocking a time of 1:50.94 for seventh in history.
Titus Bretzke followed him in at ninth with a time of 1:51.05 for eighth in history, and
Tim Dolan crossed net at 1:51.18 for 10
th in the event and in the record book.
Â
In the mile, three Quakers moved up in the record book while one added his name to the top 10.
Ray Sellaro solidified his spot at second in program history with a fourth-place finish of 3:57.89. He joins just three other former Penn runners in program history to run a sub-four-minute mile. Sellaro was closely followed by
James Lee (4:01.15),
Michael Keehan (4:02.88), and
Justin Cornetta (4:02.96). Lee's time moved him up to fifth in history, Keehan to seventh, and Cornetta into eighth.
Â
Enoch Cheung rounded out the record book movement in the 60m hurdles. During his preliminary race, he finished first overall with a time of 8.10, a time that moves him to fourth in program history. He topped that time in the finals, taking second at 8.06 to remain at fourth in the record book.
Â
The Quakers will ride this momentum into next weekend when they travel to The Armory in New York City for the Dr. Sander Invitational/Columbia Challenge. The two-day event kicks off on Friday, February 4.
