PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team opened the spring season with a bang, knocking off the University of Buffalo, 7-0, at the Hecht Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
The Quakers won all three doubles matches to emphatically take the early 1-0 lead. The teams of
Edoardo Graziani and
Jason Hildebrandt, as well as
Harsh Parikh and
Kevin Zhu each won their match 6-1;
Aditya Gupta and
Zach Smith picked up a 6-3 win.
Penn showed similar dominance in singles play, winning four of the six matches in straight sets. Playing at No. 2, Hildebrandt took the first set 6-2, then after dropping the second responded in resounding fashion with a 6-1 third-set win to claim the match.
Jonah Jurick outlasted Buffalo's Greg Hastings in the match of the day at No. 6, coming back from a first-set defeat with a 6-3 win in the second set before taking a marathon third set, 11-9, to complete the sweep.
