PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis swept #37 Yale in the regular season finale on Sunday at the Hecht Tennis Center, 4-0.
The Quakers jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning two of three doubles to begin the match as the pairings of
Justin Chung and
Vojtech Vales, and
Shaurya Bharadwaj and
Nischal Spurling won convincingly.
Bharadwaj continued his stellar play with a singles win for the Quakers second point, blanking his opponent in the first set and fighting through a tough second set and winning 7-5.
Freshman
Adam Bain picked up where he left off against Brown as he secured another singles victory to put the Quakers up 3-0.
With the sweep on the line, it was all up to the senior and all-time wins leader
Manfredi Graziani to give the Red and Blue one last victory in his final home match of his career.
Graziani outlasted #32 ranked Vignesh Gogineni in the first set, 7-5, and went on to win the second set 6-2 as he was embraced by his teammates.
This win puts the Quakers in a great position to qualify for the NCAA tournament.
The announcement of the 64-team bracket will be on Monday, April 27th at 5 p.m.
