COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Pennsylvania men's tennis team fell to #18 Stanford in the first round of the NCAA Championship on Saturday, 4-1.
Manfredi Graziani and
Aaron Sandler finished off a historic season, going 20-0 in doubles record after another victory at No. 1, over the Cardinal's 22nd-ranked duo of Alex Chang and Alexander Razeghi.
Shaurya Bharadwaj and
Nischal Spurling battled back from down 2-0 in the beginning of the match, pulling out a 7-6 win which gave the Quakers the first point of the day and a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
However, Stanford secured the next four points of the match as they came away with the singles sweep.
Graziani and fellow senior captain
Matthew Rutter closed out their Penn careers with unfinished three-set matches as they battled to the very end.
The Quakers season ends with a 18-10 record in Head Coach
Rich Bonfiglio's fourth season with the program.
