Former Women's Basketball Standout Baron Guides Israel To FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup 2021

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania women's basketball program received exciting news from across the pond, as former standout Alyssa Baron has announced that she will be competing for Israel in the FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup 2021 from September 10-12.

Baron, who is entering her seventh professional season with Elitzur Ramla, helped Israel qualify for the championships for just the second time in the history of the event. The three-day championship will take place in the gardens of the Trocadero with a unique view of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.

It will feature 12 men's and 12 women's national teams, just six weeks after 3x3's Olympic debut at the Tokyo games and three years before Paris hosts the 2024 Olympics.

The Israeli team booked its trip to the Cup on day one of the Israel Qualifier on June 25, as Baron knocked down a big shot outside of the arc with just 17 seconds to go to put Israel ahead of Switzerland, 20-18. Baron was the top scorer in the women's category, averaging 7.7 points per game.

"It was an amazing experience representing Israel, playing in front of our fans in Tel Aviv and qualifying for the European championship where we will face the best 3x3 teams in the world," Baron said.

Baron is one of the best players to come through the Penn program, with highlights such as Ivy League Player of the Year, Big 5 Player of the Year, Ivy League and Big 5 Rookie of the Year, four-time All-Ivy performer, and second all time on the Penn scoring list with 1,806 career points.
