STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania track and field programs opened the indoor campaign on Friday evening at the Seahawk Shootout, hosted by Wagner in the Ocean Breeze Complex.

Five Quakers including several new faces had great outings in their respective events to place themselves in the top 10 in program history.

On the men's side,
Dimitri Nicholson finished second in the 60m with a time of 6.94 for the eighth-best time in program history. In field events,
James Rhoads earned first place in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.15m, the seventh highest mark in program history. At the shot put,
Cameron Landis tossed the winning throw of 16.96m, a mark that is fifth best in program history although he already sits second with a throw of 17.54 back in 2019.

For the women, top 10 marks were hit in field events. At the pole vault,
Abby Norwillo and
Meghan Hart tied for first place, clearing 3.80m to land at 7th best in program history. Norwillo already sits third in program history, clearing 3.91m in 2019.Â
Tamara Grahovac placed herself at 10th in program history in the triple jump, landing at 11.76m.

As a whole, the Quakers collected 14 top finishes as well as a handful of events where Penn took the top three spots.

In the 300m, Penn swept the top spots as
Emerson Douds earned it for the men with a time of 34.24 and
Jocelyn Niemiec did the same for the women with a time of 40.34. On the women's side, Niemiec was joined in the top five by
Ruth Itua (2nd, 40.49),
Aliya Garozzo (4th, 40.73), and
Katherine Muccio (5th, 40.90).

The Quakers took both 1,000m victories with
Tim Dolan securing the men's side with a time of 2:26.80 and
Caroline O'Sullivan crossed at 2:59.75 for first place in the women's race. The men took the top three spots with
Anton Idhammar earning second (2:27.23) and
Charlie King following behind at third (2:29.34). O'Sullivan was closely followed in by
Nikhila Obbineni in second with a time of 3:04.25.

The men sealed up the top three spots in the 3,000m with
William Hare taking the top spot with a time of 8:15.98, while
Jared Cooper (8:22.69) and
James Lee (8:24.27) followed him in.

The women earned the top spots in the mile and the 60m hurdles as well, as
Maeve Stiles took first in the mile with a time of 4:58.70 and
Shevell Higgs secured first in the hurdles with a time of 8.88, edging out
Haley Rizek by just .01 seconds.

The 4x400 relay was all Penn on both sides with the men's 'A' squad winning with a time of 3:19.51, and the women's 'A' team crossing at 3:52.65 and the 'B' squad followed behind at 3:57.67.

The Quakers will take the successful opener and build on it over the holiday break before returning to Ocean Breeze on January 15 for the Penn 10-Team Select.
