New York, N.Y. – The University of Pennsylvania women's swimming and diving team opened the 2021-22 season with a 158-142 setback at Columbia on Friday evening.
The Quakers won eight different events on the night including the 200 medley relay. The quartet of
Hannah Kannan,
Jenessa Schwarz,
Vanessa Chong and
Lia Thomas won in a time of 1:44.35 to start the campaign on a high note.
The win in the relay was the start of big nights for both Chong and Thomas. In her collegiate debut, Chong finished first in three individual events, the 200 back (2:00.87), 100 fly (55.50) and the 200 IM (2:03.45). Thomas won both the 200 free (1:46.92) and the 100 free (50.35) for the Red and Blue.

Hannah Kannan earned nine points for the Quakers with a victory in the 100 back (57.42).

Margot Kaczorowski,

Lia Thomas finished just behind the Lions with a time of 1:34.84.
