Men's Soccer Returns to Ivy League Competition Against Cornell

PHILADELPHIA – For the first time in nearly 700 days, the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team will play an Ivy League match Saturday evening when Cornell comes to Rhodes Field.

The Series with Cornell
The Quakers lead the all-time head-to-head 58-33-14, including a 5-1-1 mark in the last seven meetings. Each of the last four meetings have been decided by one goal or fewer, including one tie and two matches decided in double overtime.
 
About Cornell
The Big Red enter Saturday unbeaten in their last six matches following a 5-1 win over Marist last Saturday, with their only loss of the season coming in the opener in overtime against Wake Forest.
 
Tyler Bagley has scored eight of Cornell's 20 goals this season, with his third multi-goal effort of the season coming in the win over Marist. Harry Fuller and Emeka Eneli have four goals apiece on the season; Eneli also scored twice in the victory over the Red Foxes, earning Ivy League Player of the Week recognition.
 
Of the seven teams in the conference who have played seven matches, Cornell ranks first in goals per match (2.86), points per match (7.86), shots on goal per match (8.29), and scoring margin (+1.43).
 
Quaker Notemeal
*The Quakers improved their home record on the season to 3-1-1 with a 1-0 win over Monmouth last Saturday night. Senior Isaac McGinnis headed home the lone goal of the match in the 10th minute off a corner kick from classmate Ben Stitz. Fellow senior Dane Jacomen made five saves in posting his first clean sheet of the season against the defending MAAC Tournament champions.
 
*Saturday's contest marks the fourth time the two teams have played on October 2; the Quakers have won each of the previous three.
 
*This will be the first conference match for either team since November 16, 2019. Penn enters Saturday unbeaten in its last four conference matches (2-0-2) while Cornell enters unbeaten in its last five (3-0-2).
 
*Jacomen's shutout against Monmouth lowered his goals-against average for the season to 1.25 and Penn's team GAA to 1.11; junior Nick Christoffersen has posted a 0.93 GAA in 290 minutes over three games (all starts) so far this season. As a team, the Quakers have allowed more than two goals just twice in 39 matches under fourth-year head coach Brian Gill.
 
*Of the seven teams in the conference who have played seven matches, the Quakers rank first in assists per match (2.29), and second in goals per match (2.14) and scoring margin (+1.00).
 
*Freshman Leo Burney has played all but nine minutes through the team's first seven matches, including all 110 minutes of the team's draw with Loyola (Md.).
