Boen Joins Men’s Soccer Coaching Staff

PHILADELPHIA – Welcome to University City! The James C. Gentle Head Men's Soccer Coach Brian Gill announced the addition of Sean Boen to the University of Pennsylvania's men's soccer team's coaching staff Thursday afternoon.

"First I would like to thank Liam Abdalla for all of his dedication and commitment to the program during these last three seasons. It was great to watch him grow as a coach and there is no question that he had a positive impact on the staff and players in our teams over the years," Gill said.

"I am excited to have Sean join the staff. Thankfully he was able to get in with us through the back end of the Spring, which was important because it gave him some much-needed time to better understand the role and the dynamics within the program. As a young coach, he has good energy and I appreciate the passion he brings to the field while working with our goalkeepers."

A 2024 graduate from Rutgers-Camden University, Boen comes to Philadelphia as one of the Scarlet Raptors' most accomplished goalkeepers in program history. The Byram Township, N.J. native was a three-year starter in Camden as well as a two-time NJAC (New Jersey Athletic Conference) Second Team selection and honorable mention honoree his senior year. Boen earned seven NJAC Defensive Player of the Week laurels throughout his career and ranks within the top 10 of the program's record book in goals-against average, shutouts, shots faced, wins, goalkeeper minutes played, and save percentage.

The standout goalkeeper was also a two-year letterwinner in tennis at Rutgers-Camden, competing in his junior and senior years.

"I am truly honored and excited to be joining the Penn men's soccer coaching staff. Joining the team this spring has given me a deep appreciation for the culture and excellence this program brings every day," Boen said. "It has been a pleasure integrating myself into the staff so far, and I am eager to continue learning, growing, and carrying on Penn soccer's legacy."

Boen joins the Red and Blue with coaching experience at STA Mount Olive, serving as the club's head goalkeeping coach since 2025. In his role, he is responsible for planning, managing, and implementing training programs for the club's goalkeepers, ranging from ages 10 to 19. Over his tenure, he's developed talent at the EDP, ECRL, ECNL, and MLS NEXT levels.
