PHILADELPHIA – For the second time this season, Kayla Padilla, of the University of Pennsylvania women's basketball team, swept the Ivy League weekly awards on Monday, garnering Player and Rookie of the Week honors, the league office announced.
The announcement serves as Padilla's fourth rookie award and the second time the freshman has been named the league's top player.

Padilla's latest awards come after piling up 40 points in a pair of wins in Honolulu. The trip began on New Years Eve when the freshman blitzed Hawaii for 23 tallies, including a 16-point second-half explosion to fend off a challenging Rainbow Wahine in a convincing 70-55 victory. Padilla added an assist, a steal and a critical block in the second half.
Two days later against Chaminade, the Torrance, Calif. native was extremely efficient, posting a line of 17 points, three rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists in only 22 minutes of action. Padilla drilled a trio of three pointers while shooting 6-for-9 from the field in a 90-39 defeat of the Silverswords.
Behind Padilla, who is averaging a league-best 19.5 points per game, which ranks 23rd nationally and second among freshman, Penn is 10-1 for the first time in program history, having already racked up the third-most non-league wins in a season. The freshman, in just 11 career games, has eclipsed the 20-point threshold six times and has never finished with less than 14 points.
The Quakers begin their Ivy League championship defense this Saturday, Jan. 11 against Princeton at The Palestra. The Tigers, who will enter the matchup 12-1 and shared the title last year, and Penn are combining for the best overall records all-time in an Ivy League game.
