Volleyball Opens Ivy League Play at Princeton

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania volleyball team begins its Ivy League schedule as the Quakers travel to Princeton University to face the Tigers for the first time this season. The game will begin at 7 p.m. and can be viewed on ESPN+.

*The Quakers are now 7-2 on the year, their best start since going 8-1 to open the season in 2009.
 
*The Quakers have already eclipsed their win total from last season (6).
 
*The Quakers earned two honors at the UC-Riverside Invitational. Sophomore Carmina Raquel was named to the All-Tournament Team, while sophomore Kylie Kulinski was named All-Tournament Setter.
 
*Raquel leads the Ivy League in digs (222), while also leading in average digs-per-set (4.83).
 
*Kulinski ranks fourth in the Ivy League in assists-per-set (8.50).
 
*Kulinski notched 62 assists in Penn's UC-Riverside Invitational finale against Cal-State Fullerton, just two assists shy of tying Megan Tryon (11/14/09 vs. Dartmouth) and Meghan Schloat twice (10/17/03 vs. Harvard / 10/4/02 vs. Princeton) for fifth on the all-time single game list.
 
*Junior Parker Jones ranks second in the Ivy League in kills (145), third in total points (153.5), fifth in kills-per-set (3.15), and seventh in points-per-set (3.34).
 
*Jones tallied 24 kills against Cal-State Fullerton, just two kills shy of tying Julia Swanson (11/5/10 vs. Columbia), Elizabeth Semmens (10/17/09 vs. Harvard), Sue Sabatino (11/2/96 vs. Columbia) and Kate Cooley (9/19/92 vs. Providence) for fifth on the all-time single game list.
 
*Sophomore Margaret Planek ranks fifth in the Ivy League in total points (125), sixth in points-per-set (3.47), ninth in kills-per-set (2.75), and ninth in service aces-per-set (0.36).
 
*Sophomore Daniela Fornaciari ranks tied for sixth in the Ivy League in total blocks (24), tenth in hitting percentage (.300) and tenth in blocks-per-set (0.75).
 
*Junior Caroline Leng ranks fourth in the Ivy League in total blocks (27) and sixth in blocks-per-set (0.84).

Previewing the Tigers
*Princeton enters the matchup at 4-5, having won its last two games against Temple and La Salle. The Tigers recorded a notable 3-0 sweep of Arkansas and took 14th ranked Oregon to five sets before succumbing 3-2. The Tigers return four All-Ivy competitors from last season, with right side hitter Maggie O'Connell and outside hitter/right side hitter Devon Peterkin from the first team and setter Jessie Harris and middle blocker Clare Lenihan from the second team.
