Box Score ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Penn Quakers took down the Coppin State Eagles in five sets for their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon at the Naval Academy.

The set scores were 23-25, 25-23, 25-17, 27-29, 16-14. Both matches so far this weekend have gone five sets. The match had 24 ties and six lead changes.

Four Quakers posted double doubles while three had 10+ kills. Ellie Siskin led the Quakers (1-1, 0-0 Ivy League) with 19 kills and 10 digs while Jenna Garner went for 17 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Skylar Greene earned her first start and tallied 12 kills. Addison Pollock (22 digs, 10 assists), Nathalie Tsai (21 assists, 11 digs), Garner and Siskin all had double doubles.

Penn hit .184 for the match compared to .183 for Coppin St. Penn had 64 kills, eight blocks, 74 digs and eight aces while Coppin State had 59 kills, 18 blocks, 57 digs and six aces.

Nia Curry led Coppin State (1-4, 0-0 MEAC) with 17 kills and seven digs while Cherisse Atilano had 15 kills and six digs. Eva Rovello set the offense with 46 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Coppin State started out hot, scoring seven of the first 11 before an Ellie Siskin kill helped bring Penn back to within one at 7-6. CSU extended its lead up to three at 12-9 before a Jenna Garner kill, two Ellie Siskin kills and a block from Emery Moore and Adell Murray tied it up at 13-all. A kill and a block from CSU put them up 15-13 heading into the media timeout. The Eagles went up by three at 18-15 before kills from Siskin, Murray and Kerstetter tied the set up at 19-19. Consecutive kills from CSU put them up 21-19, leading to a Quakers timeout. Kills from Garner and Siskin helped tie up the set at 22-all before the Eagles called a timeout. Two kills from CSU made it a 24-22 score, forcing coach Hagstrom to call his final timeout of the frame. Kerstetter tallied a kill to make it 24-23 before a hitting error gave the Eagles set one, 25-23. Led by seven kills from Siskin, Penn hit .233 in set one while Coppin St. hit .271.

SET 2 | Penn started hot in set two, scoring five of the first seven. Garner had a solo block while Greene and Kerstetter tallied kills. CSU would score seven of the next 11 to tie it up at 9-9 after a pair of aces and an error from the Quakers. The two teams exchange points up until the media timeout, where UPenn took a 15-13 lead into the break. A trio of errors helped put the Quakers up four at 19-15 as they seemingly took control of the frame. CSU got back to within two at 19-17 before two team errors and an ace from Siskin put Penn up 23-17. The Eagles would cut the lead to three at 24-21 before Penn called a timeout. Coppin State kept up the pressure, scoring two more to make it 24-23. Penn eventually closed out the set with a kill from Greene to win 25-23, tying the match at 1-1.

SET 3 | Coppin State started out strong in set three, scoring five of the first six before Penn called a timeout. The Quakers responded right back, tallying six of the next seven to go up 7-6. Coppin State tied it up at 7-7 with a kill before the Quakers tallied six straight to go up 13-7, forcing a Coppin State timeout. Three straight from the Eagles made it 13-10 before an error and kill from Greene put Penn up 15-10 into the media timeout. The Quakers kept the momentum going after the break, getting the lead up to as many as eight at 22-14 following a trio of Garner kills. Kills from Greene and Reese Stringer helped Penn secure a 25-17 set three victory to go up 2-1.

SET 4 | The Quakers came out hot, scoring six of the first eight in set four. Greene had a pair of kills while Stringer had two aces in the spurt. Coppin State cut the lead to two at 10-8 before Siskin, Garner and Kerstetter notched kills to make it 13-9. The two exchanged points up to 15-11 heading into the media timeout. After Stringer's third ace of the match, the Eagles tallied five straight to tie it at 16-16, forcing a Penn timeout. A trio of kills put the Quakers back up a pair of 20-18 before two bad sets locked the match back up at 20-20. Two Eagles errors put Penn up 22-20 before CSU called its final timeout of the frame. The Quakers took a 24-21 lead and had match point before two kills from CSU forced coach Hagstrom into a timeout. The Eagles tied it at 24 with a block before a Greene crushed a kill to make it 25-24, forcing a timeout. The two teams went back and forth for the next 10 points before the Eagles fought off the Quakers to win set four, 29-27.

SET 5 | Penn began the fifth set by scoring four straight, getting an ace from Garner and a kill from Greene in the spurt, leading to a timeout from the opposition. Coppin State responded, scoring eight of the next 11 to take an 8-7 lead halfway through the set. Two kills from Garner tied the match up again at 9-9 before CSU responded with a kill. The two teams exchanged points up until 12-12 before Penn had a 3-0 run to go up 14-12. CSU called timeout at match point. The Eagles scored two more to tie it up at 14-all before the Quakers closed ot the match with a 16-14 win.
