Box Score ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Penn Quakers started out year two of the Tyler Hagstrom era with a 3-2 loss against the Stony Brook Seawolves inside the Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse at the Naval Academy.

Penn took the first two sets 25-21, 25-15 before falling in the final three sets 25-18, 26-24, 16-14.

Jenna Garner led the Quakers (0-1, 0-0 Ivy League) with 19 kills and nine digs while Adell Murray went for 16 kills. Haley Kerstetter chipped in eight kills with a team-high four blocks while Emery Moore led Penn with 50 assists and 16 digs.

Penn hit .267 for the match compared to .233 for Stony Brook. Penn had 69 kills, five blocks, 75 digs and six aces while Stony Brook had 58 kills, nine blocks, 64 digs and seven aces.

For Stony Brook (2-3, 0-0 CAA), Quinn Anderson tallied 18 kills and six digs while Ella Sanders had 10 kills and seven digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Quakers came out hot, scoring six of the first eight before Stony Brook called a timeout. The Quakers would score two of the next three on a block and a kill from Adell Murray to go up 8-6 before the Seawolves made a run, tying the set up at 11-11. A 4-0 response came from Penn, paced by three Jenna Garner kills and an Ellie Siskin ace to go up 15-11. The lead would extend to 18-13 after an ace by Nathalie Tsai before Stony Brook called a timeout. The Seawolves would score four of the next five to cut the deficit to just two at 19-17 before coach Hagstrom called a timeout. Penn would respond by finishing the set on a 6-4 spurt to win 25-21. Kerstetter, Siskin and Murray all had kills in the final push. The Quakers hit a scorching .385 with 18 kills in frame one.

SET 2 | Stony Brook took the first two points of the frame before Penn tallied six of the next seven to go up 6-3. SBU would cut it to two at 8-6 before the Quakers exploded on a 7-2 spurt to go up 15-8 into the media timeout. Four different Penn players had kills in the run while Emery Moore put down an ace. Penn did not slow down, going up 18-9 following a kill and a block from Kerstetter before the Seawolves called their final timeout of the frame. SBU got no closer than eight the rest of the way as Penn went on to win set two, 25-15.

SET 3 | The Seawolves started off strong again, scoring seven of the first 11 to take an early lead. A kill from Siskin and a block from Garner and Kerstetter brought the lead back to within one at 7-6. A 4-0 SBU run made it 11-6 before three straight errors brought Penn back to within two at 11-9. The two teams exchanged points up to the media timeout, with Stony Brook taking a 15-12 lead into the sets halfway point. Penn got within one point at 16-15 and 17-16 before SBU tallied a pair of points to go up 19-16. The Quakers called a timeout at this point. The Seawolves accelerated to the finish line to take the third set, winning 25-18, forcing a fourth frame.

SET 4 | The Seawolves came out firing in set four, earning five of the first six points. A pair of kills from Sisin helped Penn get back within one at 5-4 before the teams exchanged points all the way up to 10-9. SBU scored five of the next seven after that to take a 15-11 lead in to the media timeout. Another Stony Brook point forced coach Hagstrom into another timeout. The SBU lead got up to five at 18-13 before two kills from Garner and two errors from the Seawolves cut the deficit to one at 18-17. Penn would race to take its first lead of the set at 20-19 after a kill and ace from Siskin, forcing a timeout. The two teams exchanged points until SBU scored two straight to go up 23-22, forcing Penn into its final timeout. The two teams went back and forth once again until SBU closed out set four, 26-24, forcing a fifth set.

SET 5 | Garner started the set with two kills before SBU scored the next three. The Seawolves went up 5-3 before Murray had a kill and Tsai put down another ace. The Quakers took a 6-5 lead after a bad set. SBU tied it up with a Penn attacking error before kills from Moore and Sanger put them up 9-6, leading to a timeout from Stony Brook. The Seawolves responded with a spurt of their own, scoring four of the next six to make it a one-point deficit at 11-10. The two teams exchanged points again up to 12-12, leading to a timeout from coach Hagstrom. Two kills from Murray put Penn up 14-13, leading to a SBU timeout at match point. Two points from SBU led to Penn taking its final timeout. A kill from the Seawolves ended the match, 16-14, completing the reverse sweep.
