Men's Soccer Ready to Host #24 Rutgers Tuesday on Rhodes

PHILADELPHIA - A three game homestand for the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team begins on Tuesday, Sept. 17, as the Quakers welcome in unbeaten and 24th-ranked Rutgers to Rhodes Field for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

MATCH DAY 4 - Rutgers (5-0, 0-0 Big Ten) at Penn (2-1, 0-0 Ivy League)
Tuesday, September 17 | 7:00 p.m. | Rhodes Field | Live Stats | ESPN+

Series Information
Penn leads 9-7 | Last meeting: 2015 (Rutgers, 2-0)

The series between the Quakers and the Scarlet Knights dates back to 1954, with Penn winning the first eight meetings between the two schools. Rutgers has since won seven of the last eight, save for an overtime win by the Red and Blue in 2002. The last meeting between the two came in 2015, a 2-0 victory by the Scarlet Knights on Rhodes Field.

Scoreless Streak Snapped
The Quakers entered Friday night's game at #19 St. John's as one of just five teams who hadn't allowed a goal in 2019, but after 260 minutes of scoreless soccer for the Penn defense, the Red Storm notched the game winner in the 80th minute for the lone blemish of the season.

Two's the Magic Number
The Quakers are 4-0 when scoring at least two goals since Brian Gill took over as head coach last season. In fact, Penn hasn't lost a game when scoring at least two goals since a 3-2 defeat at Princeton in 2014.

Bhangdia's Boot
Junior Joey Bhangdia is off to a hot start this fall, scoring a goal in each of Penn's two wins against Monmouth and Marist. Against the Red Foxes, Bhangdia sent in the game winner in the 82nd minute, the third goal of his career.

Klutch Kohlbrenner
Jake Kohlbrenner enters his junior season with six career goals, matching Alex Touche for the team lead of all returning players. A Kohlbrenner goal has been a sure sign of success for the Quakers, as Penn is 5-0-1 when the New York native scores.

Against the Best
Penn is playing ranked opponents in back-to-back games for the first time since facing off against #23 Temple and #21 Penn State in 2015. The Quakers' last win over a ranked foe came against No. 13 Brown in a 1-0 victory on Oct. 30, 2010.

Aye, Aye Captain
Returning All-Ivy honorees, senior Brandon Bartel and junior Alex Touche have been tabbed as captains for the Quakers in 2019.

Scouting Rutgers
The Scarlet Knights are off to their best start to a season since 1990, sporting a perfect 5-0 record, featuring wins over Temple, Drexel, Elon, Binghamton and Manhattan. Despite being picked to finish ninth in the preseason Big Ten rankings, Rutgers featured Vincent Borden, Kyle Galloway and Thomas DeVizio on the Preseason Honors List, and has outscored its opponents 8-3 so far this season. Freshman Jackson Temple leads the team with three goals, while fellow rookie is Jorgen Wisth Lie is right behind with two.
