PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania football team will add 33 new members to the #UPrising this fall as the Quakers set out on the 143rd season of Penn Football and the 125th year of competition at historic Franklin Field.
"It is always exciting when you get to add to your group, and that energy is palpable today as we get to welcome 33 new members of the Penn Football Family," said George A. Munger Head Coach of Football
Ray Priore. "Our coaching staff has scoured the country to find elite student-athletes and we're confident we've put together a group ready to carry on the tradition of excellence associated with Penn Football. What I'm most excited about is the leadership qualities of this group. 28 of the 33 players joining us this season have served as a team captain during their careers and have experience leading. We are looking for young men who want to lead, and this group has that desire."
The newcomers hail from 16 states – led by California, Pennsylvania and Virginia with four new student-athletes each. Georgia, Illinois and New Jersey are sending three players to University City.
18 of the newcomers play on the defensive side of the ball, with seven players joining as defensive linemen and seven at linebacker. The offensive side of the ball will add 14 new players, led by five on the offensive line. One punter will join the special teams unit.
