PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania football team (1-2, 0-1 Ivy League) returns home Saturday for a non-conference matchup with Howard (2-3, 0-0 MEAC) at Franklin Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
This will be the first meeting between Penn and Howard in program history. The Quakers will look to bounce back from a 14-10 setback at Dartmouth last Saturday in their Ivy League opener. Howard enters the matchup coming off a 27-13 victory over Hampton last Saturday at Audi Field.

SCOUTING THE BISON
- Howard enters Saturday's matchup with a 2-3 record, earning wins over Alabama A&M (31-24) and Hampton (27-13), while falling to Richmond (28-21), No. 5 Indiana (55-0) and Rutgers (58-7).
- The Bison are led by first-year head coach Ted White, who returned to Howard after previously serving on the program's coaching staff. White replaces Larry Scott, who led the Bison for six seasons and guided the program to two MEAC championships and a Celebration Bowl appearance.
- Howard has shown an ability to create explosive plays through the air, averaging 158.6 passing yards per game. The Bison are averaging 260.8 yards of total offense per game, including 102.2 rushing yards and 158.6 passing yards.
- Graduate quarterback Ja'Shawn Scroggins has been the catalyst for the Bison offense, completing 64-of-126 passes for 772 yards and five touchdowns through five games. He has also rushed for 161 yards and has accounted for six total touchdowns.
- Scroggins is coming off his best performance of the season against Hampton, completing 23-of-34 passes for 267 yards and a touchdown while adding 64 rushing yards. He accounted for 331 yards of total offense in the 27-13 victory.
- Senior Se'Quan Osborne leads Howard with 176 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Semaj Pierre has added 131 receiving yards.
- Howard's rushing attack has been led by Scroggins, who has 161 yards on the ground, while Eden James has scored a team-high two rushing touchdowns.
- Defensively, the Bison have recorded 12 sacks through five games. Rodney Roane leads Howard with three sacks, while sophomore linebacker Aidan Foster has 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
- Foster was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week after recording five tackles and 1.5 sacks against Hampton. He leads the Bison with 30 total tackles on the season.
- Howard's defense has been at its best getting after opposing quarterbacks. The Bison recorded six sacks in the second half against Hampton and held the Pirates to 36 rushing yards in the victory.
- Howard's season defensive numbers have been affected by matchups against FBS opponents Indiana and Rutgers, with the Bison allowing 35.6 points and 401.8 yards per game through five contests.
- The Bison have converted just 29.7 percent of their third-down opportunities this season, while Penn's defense has held opponents to just over 21 percent on third down through three games.
FIRST MEETING
- Saturday's game marks the first-ever meeting between Penn and Howard.
LAST TIME OUT
- Penn (1-2, 0-1 Ivy League) fell to Dartmouth, 14-10, last Saturday afternoon at Buddy Teevens Stadium in Hanover.
- The Quakers led 10-7 late in the fourth quarter after a 16-play, 80-yard drive capped by a one-yard touchdown run from Donte West with 8:47 remaining.
- Dartmouth answered with a touchdown drive of its own, covering 75 yards on eight plays to take a 14-10 lead with 4:55 remaining.
- Penn drove into Dartmouth territory on its final possession but turned the ball over on downs at the Big Green 16-yard line with 1:20 remaining.
- Quarterback Miles Teodecki threw for a career-high 214 yards, completing 27-of-39 passes without an interception. He also added 54 rushing yards.
- Mason Page tied his career high with eight receptions and established a career best with 64 receiving yards.
- Donte West scored his first touchdown of the season on a one-yard run.
- Zach Darche led the Quakers in tackles for the third consecutive game, finishing with nine total tackles.
QUAKER OFFENSE THROUGH THREE GAMES
- Penn is averaging 303.0 yards of total offense per game through three contests, including 181.3 passing yards and 121.7 rushing yards per game.
- Freshman quarterback Miles Teodecki has completed 54-of-110 passes for 544 yards and two touchdowns this season while adding 126 rushing yards.
- Teodecki's 214 passing yards against Dartmouth were a career high.
- Mason Page leads the Quakers with 145 receiving yards on 17 catches, including a career-high eight receptions for 64 yards at Dartmouth.
- Tommy Lafayette leads Penn with 63 rushing yards, while Donte West has 49 yards and Sean Williams Jr. has 43.
- Williams scored Penn's lone touchdown at Dartmouth and has one rushing touchdown on the season.
- Dante Barone and Mason Page have each scored one touchdown for the Quakers this season.
DEFENSE SETTING THE TONE
- Penn's defense has allowed just 13.7 points per game through three contests, which ranks fourth in the Ivy League. The Quakers have let up just five touchdowns all season, which is one behind the league leaders.
- The Quakers are allowing just 218.7 yards per game (best in Ivy League), including 102.0 passing yards and 116.7 rushing yards.
- Penn leads the Ivy League in passing defense, giving up just 102.0 yards per game. Their rushing defense (116.7 ypg) ranks second.
- Penn held Bucknell to seven points in the season opener and Lehigh to 20 points before Dartmouth scored 14 points last Saturday.
- Senior linebacker Zach Darche leads Penn with 30 total tackles through three games after recording nine against Dartmouth.
- Edge rusher Joey Holliday leads the Quakers with two sacks and three tackles for loss.
TEODECKI TAKES THE REINS
- Freshman quarterback Miles Teodecki has started all three games for the Quakers in 2026.
- He opened his collegiate career by completing 18-of-34 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns in Penn's 20-7 victory at Bucknell.
- Against No. 6/7 Lehigh, Teodecki completed 18-of-37 passes for 133 yards.
- He followed that performance with a career-high 214 passing yards at Dartmouth, completing 27-of-39 attempts.
- Through three games, Teodecki has thrown for 544 yards and two touchdowns.
RUNNING BACK BY COMMITTEE
- Penn continues to utilize a committee approach in the backfield. Penn's rushing offense has struggled to get going so far this year, tallying just 119 yards per game on the ground. That figure is good for seventh in the Ivy League.
- Teodecki leads all rushers with 118 yards on the ground, followed by running backs Donte West (88), Tommy Lafayette (83) and Sean Williams Jr. (64). The Quakers have yet to have a solo 100-yard rusher this season in three games.
WR CORE OVERHAUL
- The top four pass catchers from last year's Penn team all departed due to graduation. Jared Richardson, an All-American last year, finished with 1,033 yards and 12 touchdowns a year ago. He finished his career ranked third all-time at Penn in receiving yards (2,505), fourth in receptions (193), and tied for second in receiving touchdowns (27).
- Bisi Owens went for 696 yards and five touchdowns in 2025 on his way to being a First Team All-Ivy League selection. Davis Ellis (17/175/1TD) and Alex Haight (11/102/0) were the third and fourth leading receivers last season.
- Tight end Jack Donnelly (5/68/0) was the leading returning pass catcher for 2026.
- Freshman Mason Page leads the receiving core with 17 catches for 145 yards and a touchdown. Page ranks third among all Ivy League freshman in catches and receiving yards, behind Harvard's Nathan Bailey (27/283) and Columbia's Bryce Coleman (20/270).
- Sophomore Luke Johnson is up next with seven catches for 79 yards. Sophomore Isaac Lee stepped up last week against Lehigh, tallying four receptions for 39 yards. He's the No. 3 leading receiver for Penn with seven catches for 64 yards. Simon Cofrancesco is WR4 with five for 56 yards.
DARCHE DOING HIS THING
- Zach Darche, a senior linebacker, paces Penn with 30 tackles this season, including 1.5 for loss. He was also credited with a QB hurry. He currently ranks fourth among all Ivy League players in total tackles.
SHUTDOWN DEFENSE
- Penn leads the Ivy League in opponent third down defense after two weeks. Opponents are just 8/38 (21.1%) on third down.Â
- Penn has allowed just 36 total first downs this season, for an average of 12 per game. Those marks are both top in the conference.
- Columbia is after Penn in first downs allowed, giving up 45 total and 15 per game.
TIME OF POSSION ON PENN'S SIDE
- Penn is second in the Ivy League in time of possession (33:11 avg.) per game.
RICK SANTOS ERA
- Rick Santos was named the George A. Munger Head Football Coach at Penn on Dec. 13, 2025, replacing Ray Priore, who spent 11 years as head coach at Penn and 39 years in total with the program.
- Santos guided New Hampshire to three NCAA FCS Playoff appearances during his five-year tenure as head coach.
- He posted a 37-24 (.607) record at UNH, recording winning seasons in all five years.
- Santos went 28-12 in CAA play and led the Wildcats to NCAA FCS Playoff berths in 2022, 2024 and 2025.
