PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team is headed into its final weekend of Ivy League play this season. The Quakers (21-14, 12-6 Ivy) will play a midweek contest against Drexel on Thursday (4 p.m.) before they travel to New York for their Ivy League finale against Columbia (19-17, 10-4 Ivy) over the weekend. Penn's series against the Lions begins on Saturday with a doubleheader (12:30 p.m.) and concludes with a single game on Sunday (12:30 p.m.)
Previewing Penn
The Quakers enter the week coming off of a three-game sweep over Brown last weekend. Penn scored six unanswered runs to take game one before walking off in game two with a
Corrie Phillips single.
Jennifer Brann threw a perfect game in the series finale as the Red and Blue went on to win, 5-0.
Brann's perfect game is only the second in program history. Alexis Borden threw the team's first perfect game in 2012 during the South Division playoff against Cornell. Brann is the fifth player in the NCAA this season to throw a seven-inning perfect game and the third in Ivy League history.
With her performance, Brann was named the Ivy League's Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. It marked the fifth time that a Quaker was named Pitcher of the Week.
Joining Brann in the weekly awards was freshman
Corrie Phillips. Phillips went 4-for-9 in the three-game sweep of Brown. She recorded at least one hit in all three games, including a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh of game two to complete the come-from-behind victory.
The Quakers sit at third place in the Ivy League and a game and a half behind Columbia and Havard (18-16, 11-4 Ivy). The Lions will close out conference play next week against Brown (10-22, 3-12 Ivy) while the Crimson finish with Cornell (8-31, 3-12 Ivy).
