Softball Plays Final Ivy Series At Home, Hosts Brown

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team (18-14, 9-6 Ivy) will play its final Ivy League home games this weekend when it hosts Brown (10-18, 3-9 Ivy) for a three game series. The Quakers will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. and then wrap with a single game on Sunday (12:30 p.m.) that will also mark Senior Day.

Previewing Penn
After falling in two of three games last week against Princeton, Penn will look to bounce back against Brown this weekend. The Quakers are fourth in the Ivy League standings, but remain just a game and a half back of Columbia (17-16, 9-3 Ivy), and Harvard (16-15, 9-3 Ivy). This weekend Harvard will travel to Princeton (12-19, 8-4 Ivy) while Columbia will head to Yale (14-22, 8-7 Ivy).

Sunday will mark Senior Day for the Red and Blue. Prior to the series finale against the Bears, the Quakers will recognize seniors Sarah Cwiertnia, Jessica England, Hannah Gibbons, and Sam Pederson. As a class, the group has won 80 games in their four years and have earned multiple spots in the program record books.

The focus this weekend will be on the seniors, however, earlier this week it was freshman Emma Nedley who made headlines. Nedley became the first to represent Penn and the Ivy League in the NFCA Freshman of the Year Top-25.
Nedley is one of two players for the Red and Blue to have started in all 32 games and she currently leads the Quakers in hits (39), runs (21), and home runs (5). She also tops all Ivy League freshmen to batting average (.379), hits, runs, slugging percentage (.631) and stolen bases. The Quakers are 11-1 this season when Nedley records an RBI and 14-3 when she scores a run.
