PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania softball team (7-8, 1-2 Ivy) returns to Penn Park on Wednesday for a mid-week double-header against fellow Big-5 school, La Salle (5-10). The Quakers will look to grab some momentum before their first home Ivy League series this weekend against Harvard.
Previewing Penn
Penn will be looking to bounce back after a 1-2 weekend at Yale. The Quakers split day one of their first Ivy League series behind a
Tabitha Dyer complete-game shutout. The Red and Blue ended the series against the Bulldogs with a narrow, 6-4, loss.
Freshman
Emma Nedley has impressed at the plate in her rookie campaign. Nedley hit home runs in both of Penn's wins last week. Against Lafayette, her solo-shot tied the game for the Quakers, 1-1, in the fifth before the team went on to win, 2-1, in extra innings. She hit another solo home run in game two against Yale to score the first run in the, 3-0, win. Her three home runs lead the team.
Dyer's run of 21.1 innings without giving up an earned run came to an end last week. The sophomore lefty still ranks 48th in the nation in ERA (1.41) and 32nd in hits allowed per seven innings (4.24). Dyer is 4-1 in the circle this season and has thrown four complete games, two of which have been shutouts.
