PHILADELPHIA – The Ivy League announced its weekly award winners on Monday and for the second consecutive week, sophomore
Tabitha Dyer has been named Pitcher of the Week.
Dyer wins the Ivy League's Pitcher of the Week after throwing her second and third complete games of the season. The lefty threw her first career complete-game shutout to lead the Quakers to a 1-0 victory over Central Michigan. She then threw her third consecutive complete game, allowing jus two unearned runs in a 4-2 win over St. John's.
With her impressive week in the circle, she became the first Penn pitcher since
Alexis Sargent in 2016 to throw three straight complete games and is the first since Sargent in 2017 to throw a complete game shutout. After throwing three consecutive complete games without allowing an earned run, she is the first Red and Blue pitcher to achieve that feat since Mary Anne Reily in 1984.
Dyer leads the nation in ERA as she is just one of three pitchers with a 0.00 ERA. She is the only pitcher with a 0.00 ERA to have thrown more than 20 innings.
This is the fourth time that the sophomore has been honored by the Ivy League in her career. Dyer was awarded Rookie of the Week twice last season before winning Pitcher of the Week last week. She is the first Penn pitcher to be awarded pitcher of the week back-to-back since Sargent won the award three weeks in a row in 2016.
The Quakers are back in action on Wednesday when they host Lafayette in a double-header starting at 3:30 p.m. in preparation for their first Ivy League road-trip to Yale this weekend.
