Volleyball Hits the Road for Contests Against Columbia, Cornell

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania volleyball team (9-8, 2-6) heads out for a two-game road trip in the state of New York, with matches on Friday at Columbia (10-8, 3-5) and Saturday at Cornell (14-3, 7-1). The Quakers dropped the first game of season against both teams, falling 3-1 to the Lions and 3-2 against the Big Red at The Palestra.

*Junior Caroline Leng and Freshman Autumn Leak were named to the Ivy League Honor Roll on October 21st. The award is the first of its kind for Leng and is the fourth this season for Leak.
 
*Leng tallied eight kills and a sparkling .500 hitting percentage against Princeton to earn her place on the Honor Roll. Leng also notched two digs and a block assist in the loss.
 
*Leng ranks eighth in the Ivy League in total blocks (47) and tied for ninth in blocks-per-set (0.82).
 
*Leak notched eight kills and a .227 hitting percentage in the loss against Princeton on October 25th. She also tallied three digs and two block assists, earning her spot on the Honor Roll.
 
*Sophomore Daniela Fornaciari ranks sixth in the Ivy League in total blocks (51), seventh in hitting percentage (.327) and eighth in blocks-per-set (0.84).
 
*Sophomore Margaret Planek ranks sixth in the Ivy League in total points (211.5), sixth in total kills (171), tied for seventh in service aces (19), eighth in points-per-set (3.25), tied for eighth in service aces-per-set (0.29) and tenth in kills-per-set (2.63).
 
*Junior Parker Jones ranks fourth in the Ivy League total points (216.5), fourth in kills (198), fifth in points-per-set (3.25) and sixth in kills-per-set (2.96).
 
*Jones (746) needs just four more kills to reach 750 for her career.
 
*Jones is two kills away from 200 this season. Last season, the Quakers had just two players (Jones and junior Raven Sulaimon) reach the 200 kill threshold.
 
*Sophomore Carmina Raquel leads the Ivy League in digs (294), while also leading in average digs-per-set (4.39).
 
*Raquel's 27 digs against Chicago State on September 14th remain an Ivy League single-game high for a five-set match.
 
*Sophomore Kylie Kulinski's 62 assists against Cal State Fullerton on September 21st remain an Ivy League single-game high this season.

Previewing the Lions
*The Lions enter the matchup in an odd position, as the middle ground of two groups of teams in the Ivy League. With three teams tied for first and four teams tied for last, the Lions (10-8, 3-5) remain stuck in the middle, having lost their last three matches. Columbia is led by senior sensation ChiChi Ikwuazom, who far and away leads the Ivy League in kills (329) and ranks second in the NCAA in points per set (6.10) and third in hitting percentage (.447) and kills per set (5.44).
 
Penn at Cornell – Saturday, 5 p.m.

*Penn lost their first matchup of the season with Cornell and have lost the last two, dropping a tight 3-2 decision on October 4th.
 
Previewing the Big Red
*The Big Red enter the matchup amid a historic run. Cornell's 14 wins are the most for the team since 2006 and at 7-1 in conference play, the Big Red are tied for first place and looking for their first Ivy League title since 2006. They are led by three 2018 second team All-Ivy performers; Sophomore Jillienne Bennett, Senior Samanta Arenas and Senior Jenna Phelps.
