ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's track and field program ripped off three performances worthy of top-three records all-time in their respective events on Saturday in Annapolis, Md. at the Wesley A. Brown Invitational, hosted by Navy.
Anna Peyton Malizia matched the program record in the high jump, a record she already owns, after clearing 1.80m. Cecil Ene ran away with the 400m dash, blitzing the field with a time of 55.16, the second-best time in program history. On the men's side, Evan Lee was just eight points shy of the program record in the heptathlon, winning with 5,419 points. His performance was the eighth-best in Ivy League history.
Both programs won seven events on the afternoon.
On the men's side, Lee ran away with the heptathlon; Calvary Rogers won the 200m dash in 21.67 seconds and Marvin Morgan was fourth with the third-best time in program history, 21.83 ; Anthony Okolo scored a victory in the 400m dash, finishing in 48.83; Joseph Novak won the 800m in 1:53.89; and Colin Daly earned the 1000m triumph in 2:28.10 in a Penn-dominated event. Ray Sellaro was second, less than a tenth of a second behind Daly, and Sam Webb took fourth.
In the field events, Lance Yassay won the high jump, clearing 2.05m and Nathan Fisher took the pole vault after flying over 5.00m. The Quakers swept the top-two positions in the pole vault, as freshman Payton Morris was second with a height of 4.85m.
Penn crushed the competition in the 60m dash, led by Imani Solan's win in 7.73 seconds while Ene was second with a time of 7.77 and Camille Dickson rounded out the podium with a time of 7.80. Melissa Tanaka won the 800m with a time of 2:11.69 and Caroline O'Sullivan was third in the event, in addition to Ene's win in the 400m.
Malizia won the high jump and Kathryn Schoenauer and Dickson each cleared 5.59m in the long jump, the winning height. Rachel Lee Wilson and Mayyi Mahama swept the top two spots of the weight throw after Wilson launched a 19.76m throw and Mahama recorded a 17.56m throw. Elena Brown-Soler crushed the pentathlon with 3,505 points.
Next Saturday, the Quakers will compete in the Penn 8-Team Select at Staten Island, N.Y.'s Ocean Breeze Complex.
