How it Happened

Over the past two weeks, the Quakers bats have been nothing short of on fire. That wouldn't change in Saturday's series opening win. For the fourth time in five games, they would exceed ten hits and for the second time in three games, they would score more than ten runs.

It didn't take long for Penn to get going. Sarah Cwiertnia started it all off with a two run homer in the first to put the Quakers up 2-0. They would never relinquish the lead.

Tied 2-2 in the fourth, The Red and Blue went up on a double-steal executed to perfection by Tabitha Dyer and Lucy Yang. The  scoring play would be the first of six in the inning.

Sarah Cwiertnia brought in her third and fourth runs of the day to expand the Quaker lead to four. Then it was the bat of Jurie Joyner who hit the second Red and Blue home run of the day to go up 8-2.

Holding a six run lead, the Tigers would not go away. They brought it back to 8-5 in the bottom of the fourth. Then down 10-5 in the sixth, Princeton scored three to make it 11-9.

With a narrow two-run lead, it was once again the bat of Joyner to give the Quakers some breathing room. The senior hit her second of the day and fifth of the season to give her team a 12-9 lead in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the frame Jennifer Brann replaced Abramson in the circle. The sophomore allowed two runs to make it a one-run game, but stranded runners on first and second as a groundout ended the game to give the Quakers the win in the series opener.
