PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania Softball Team (2-10, 0-0 Ivy) will get its first taste of the new Ivy League format this weekend as they host Columbia at Penn Park for a three-game series starting with a double-header at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams will then wrap up the series with one game on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
The Ivy League heads into its new format in 2018 ridding of divisions. Instead, each team will play a three game series against one another with the top two teams in the conference at the end of league play advancing to the ILCS.

Last Time Out
The Quakers opened up Penn Park on Wednesday earning a home win against Lafayette, 6-3. Penn opened up the scoring with three runs in the fourth inning. A two run frame in the sixth made it 5-3 before
Tabitha Dyer returned to close out the game earning her first career win.
About Penn
* Last year the Quakers ended the 2017 Ivy League slate against Columbia, while this year the Lions are the first series on the schedule. Penn swept the four game series, winning both games in New York before taking the final two at home at Penn Park.
* The Red and Blue lead the all-time series against the Lions. Penn is 7-3 in the last ten meetings and are 24-8 since 2010.
* Penn finished the 2017 Ivy season with a 12-8 record, good enough for a third place finish.

Sarah Cwiertnia made her 2018 debut on Wednesday against Lafayette. She went three of four at the plate with an RBI.

Sam Pederson has continued to be one of the Quakers' most consistent hitters. She is currently second on the team with eight hits
* The freshman duo of
Lucy Yang and
Tabitha Dyer have impressed and found themselves near the top of the lineup early on in their careers. Yang has started all 12 games and her .300 batting average ranks second on the team. Dyer is ahead of her, hitting .360, and leads the pitching staff with a 3.98 era.

Jennifer Brann has a career high 22 strikeouts on the season. That includes a ten strikeout game against Western Michigan.
* Lead by Brann,
Jessica England, and
Katie Petroski, the Quakers are second in the Ivy League in stolen bases with 20. The trio are a perfect three for three on stolen base attempts.
Previewing Columbia
* The Lions are 5-10 this season with notable wins against Virginia, Georgetown, and CSU-Fullerton.
* Columbia is lead by senior Taylor Troutt. She is hitting .429 with a team-high 18 hits.
* Also hitting above .300 are Olivia Parker and Sommer Grzybek.
* In the circle, Erin Gallo leads the way. She is 2-3 in the season with a 3.08 ERA. The Quakers will also be seeing Madeline Meier who is 3-4 with 32 strikeouts in seven appearances.
What's Next
Penn will have the same schedule next week as they had this week. The Red and Blue will have a game on Wednesday, this time traveling to La Salle before hosting their second Ivy League Series against Dartmouth at Penn Park on Saturday and Sunday.
