Women's Track and Field Earns Coach of the Year, All-Ivy Accolades

PHILADELPHIA - Following its Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championship over the weekend, the University of Pennsylvania women's track and field program has earned a myriad of awards from the league office, including a unanimous Coach of the Year honor for the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, Steve Dolan.

Dolan's nod for Ivy League Coach of the Year is the second of his career, but first in track and field. Alongside his selection, the Quakers boasted five individual first-team All-Ivy honorees, as well as a first-team selection for the 4x800m relay team of Gina Alm, Mikayla Schneider, Nia Akins and Katie DeVore.

Abby Hong garnered two first-team All-Ivy accolades after a monster showing at Ivy Heps, earning the championship in both the 3,000m and 5,000m. Freshman Uchechi Nwogwugwu earned first-team honors after winning the 500m, while Rachel Lee Wilson (weight throw) and Anna Peyton Malizia (high jump) both landed on the first team. Wilson, Alm, and Akins all earned second-team status last year before rising to the top of the league in 2018.

Penn displayed its depth over the weekend as well, posting seven second-place showings to help the Quakers rack up the points en route to victory. Maddie Villalba earned second-team All-Ivy in the mile, as well as Breanne Bygrave in the 60m hurdles, Caroline O'Neil in the 400m, Taylor McCorkle in the 60m, Molly Minnig in the pole vault and Maura Kimmel in the shot put. The quartet of Candace Taylor, O'Neil, Cecil Ene and Nwogwugwu teamed up to finish second in the 4x400m relay as well. This marks the second-straight second-team All-Ivy performance for Minnig.

The Quakers will have a month off before starting the outdoor season at home, hosting the Penn Challenge at Franklin Field on Saturday, March 24.
