KNOXVILLE, TENN. – The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the three-day Tennessee Invitational on Saturday night. The men's team finished the weekend in second place with 728 points, only behind hosts, Tennessee. The women finished with 288 points in fifth place.
Penn Men
Another solid day for the men's team started with the 1,650 free, an event the Quakers have not swum all year.
Will Thomas (15:13.85) finished in fourth place with
CJ Hinckley (15:23.47) taking a fifth-place finish.
Thomas Dillinger posted a career-best time in the 100 free (43.04) to take a second-place finish.
Boris Yang got in on the action as well as his career-best time of 1:56.71 earned the sophomore a second-place finish in the 200 breast.
Mark Andrew came two places behind Yang to finish fourth (1:58.62).
Alec Hsing took second-place in the B final (2:00.24).
Sean Lee gave Penn another A final second-place finish after clocking in at 1:45.53 in the 200 fly.
John McCaghren finished third (1:47.95), while Kenan Dols finished third in the B final (1:48.49).
The Quakers closed out the meet as a team of Andrew, Dillinger, Blinstrub and Lee took third in the 400 free relay (2:54.25)
Penn Women
The women started the day as
Catherine Buroker took third place in the 1,650 free (16:19.92) – the first mile swim for Buroker with the Red and Blue.
Tara Larusso posted a career-best time in the 200 back (1:59.52) as she took third in the B final.
Monika Burzynska swam a personal-best in the 200 fly to finish sixth in the A final (1:59.52).
Joanne Fu took third in the B final after clocking in at 2:01.55.
Penn closed out the meet as a team of
Mollie Westrick, Tara Larusso,
Hannah Kannan ,and
Rachel Maizes finished in 13th place in the 400 free relay (3:28.54).
Looking Ahead
The Tennessee Invitational marked the last meet of the calendar year for Penn. The Quakers return to action as they welcome Yale and Dartmouth to Sheerr Pool for a tri-meet on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019.
