PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's swimming and diving programs split a dual meet with Villanova this afternoon. The men picked up a 171-120 team victory while the women fell 177-123.

The Quakers started strong against Villanova. A team of
Hannah Kannan,
Rachel Maizes,
Monika Burzynska, and
Emily Layne won the 200-medley relay posting a time of 1:45.68. Burzynska went on to pick up a solo win later in the 100 fly (56.32). Kannan placed second in the 100 back (57.35) and Maizes took third place in the 100 breast (1:08.14).Â

Serena Xue picked up a victory in the 200 breast at 2:21.72 -- improving on her season best. Xue later placed second in the 100 breast (1:06.31) and was just 0.12 seconds behind Nova's Rayann Jaryszak. Captain
Nancy Hu picked up another win for Penn in the 200 fly, clocking in at 2:04.61.Â

Catherine Buroker captured her second first-place finish this season in the 1,000 free (10:14.83).The freshman improved on her previous season-best of 10:17.46. Tara Larusso took a second-place finish in the 200 back (2:02.87) later in the meet.Â

The Penn divers took second, third, and fourth in the 1-meter dive and the 3-meter dive.
Madison Perry took second place in the 3-meter (238.43), with
Juliette Pozzuoli (232.12) coming in second and
Caroline Dobbs (194.10) finished behind in third. Pozzuoli (231.44), Perry (222.15), and Dobbs (189.97) took second, third, and fourth, respectively, in the 1-meter. Â

Penn closed out the meet with a third-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:37.53). Â

The Penn men came to swim today, winning 11 of the meet's 16 events. The Quakers opened as a team of
Mark Blinstrub,
Boris Yang,
John McCaghren, and
Nathaniel Cunnan won the 200-medley relay (1:31.99). Â

The Red and Blue followed that event with its swimmers taking the top three spots in the 1,000 free. Matthew Haigh finished first (9:43.10) with
Will Thomas coming in second (9:49.37), and
Billy Fallon finishing in third (9:52.02).Â

Penn followed up with another 1-2-3 finish in the 200 free:
Luke Snyder won the event (1:42.68) with
Jacob Furlong on his tail in second (1:42.75) and
Austin Ryan finishing third (1:46.60).Â
Colin McHugh (58.21) and Yang (58.30) took the top two spots in the 100 breast;
William Kamps (1:53.85) and McCaghren (1:54.81) made a 1-2 finish for Penn in the next event. Â

Blinstrub picked up a pair of victories in the 100 (49.28) and 200 back (1:49.96) - the second meet this season where he won both events.Â

The Quakers occupied the top three spots in the 100 free.
Nathaniel Cunnan (47.33) led the trio of Quakers, as
Luke Snyder (47.63) and
Noah Pereles (48.14) finished just behind. Â

Penn posted its fourth 1-2-3 finish of the meet as the Quakers dominated in the 3-meter dive.
John-Michael Diveris posted the top score (318.00) as
Andrew Bologna (313.34) and
James Hopper (308.41) took second and third place. In the 1-meter, Hopper placed second (290.32) with Diveris (279.37) and
Cameron Rhind (255.07) in third and fourth. Â
Colin McHugh improved on his season best time in the 200 breast to take first-place (2:07.37), while Kamps took second (2:11.70). Penn posted its ninth 1-2 finish of the afternoon in the 500 free with Matthew Haigh (4:44.42) and
Jacob Furlong (4:46.18) in front.Â

Penn's men and women look ahead to some Ivy League competition as the Quakers travel to Ithaca, N.Y. for a tri-meet with Cornell and Princeton on Saturday, Nov. 17. Â
