Men's Swimming & Diving Prepares for First Ivy Tri-Meet of 2018

PHILADELPHIA  The University of Pennsylvania men's swimming and diving program looks ahead to its first Ivy League tri-meet of 2018-19, as the Quakers travel to Ithaca for a showdown with host Cornell and Ivy rival Princeton.

Meet Information
  PENN at CORNELL with PRINCETON

  Saturday, Nov. 17 | 3 p.m. (Swim), 5 p.m. (Dive) | Ithaca, N.Y.

Hot Start
Penn has won its first three meets of the season in convincing fashion, defeating opponents by an average of 52.67 points. Starting with a 3-0 record in dual meets, the Quakers have posted their best start to the season since 2015-16.

Last Time Out
The Quakers won 11 of 16 events to defeat Villanova 171-120. Penn saw its swimmers take the top three spots in four events and the top two spots in nine others.

Five Firsts
Five Quakers earned their first solo victories of the season last Friday: Matthew Haigh took first in the 1,000 free (9:43.10), Luke Snyder won the 200 free (1:42.68), Colin McHugh topped the 100 breast (58.21), Nathaniel Cunnan placed first in the 100 free (47.33), and John-Michael Diveris posted the top score in the 3-meter dive (318.00). Freshman William Kamps rounded out the group after winning his first collegiate event – the 200 fly (1:53.85).

Top of the Ivy
Boris Yang (2:02.15) and Mark Andrew (2:03.41) hold the top two times among Ivy League swimmers in the 200 breast. Both times were clocked in during the Quakers' first meet of the season against Columbia.

Tough Competition
Penn will face its strongest competition this Saturday as the Quakers face Cornell and Princeton. The Big Red started their season last weekend after competing in a tri-meet with Harvard and Dartmouth last weekend. Cornell defeated Dartmouth but were edged by No. 23 Harvard.

Princeton kicked off its season with a trip to Boca Raton, Fla. The Tigers routed Boston College and Florida Gulf Coast, winning 239-59 and 230-70, respectively. Princeton then returned home to host the Big Al Open which featured Duke, Northwestern, Penn State, and Lehigh, and took a convincing first-place finish.
