Series Information
Penn leads 2-1 | Last meeting: 1999 (UMBC, 3-1)
The Quakers have battled against the Retrievers just three times in program history, facing off in 1986, 1998, and most recently in 1999. Penn tallied wins in its first two matchups against UMBC, but fell in Baltimore 3-1 in former head coach
Rudy Fuller's second season with the Red and Blue. This marks Penn's first match against an opponent from the America East Conference since defeating Stony Brook, 2-0, in 2013.
Regulation Not Enough
The Quakers have battled into overtime in six of their eight matches this season, marking a first for the program. In fact, much of Penn's best luck this season has come in overtime, as both of the Red and Blue's two wins came past the 90 minute mark.
Going the Distance
In addition to Forbes, Penn's back four of
Casey Barone,
Erumuse Momoh,
Alex Touche and
RC Williams have played all 805 minutes and change on the field for the Red and Blue, helping provide defensive stability that has translated into results for the team. Penn has allowed eight fewer goals than at this point last year.
Grassroots Soccer Charity Night
The Quakers are raise funds for Grassroots Soccer, and will celebrate their partnership with the organization on Tuesday against UMBC. Grassroot Soccer is an international organization that uses the power of soccer to educate and mentor adolescents about their greatest health challenges, including HIV/AIDS, malaria, sexual and reproductive health, and gender-based violence.
