Men's Swimming Pacing the Field at Total Performance Invite

GAMBIER, Ohio - The University of Pennsylvania men's swimming and diving team featured a dominant day in the pool at the Total Performance Invitational hosted by Kenyon College, winning eight events and amassing a total of 1,517 points headed into the final day of competition. 

Thomas Dillinger, Kevin Su, Jimmy Jameson and Zach Fisher started things off with a first-place finish in the 200-yd freestyle relay, touching the wall at 1:19.88.

Michael Wen would set a new pool record at the James A. Steen Aquatic Center in the 200-yd butterfly, leading a trio of Quakers who finished 1-2-3, with a time of 1:46.99. Emilio DeSomma notched second, while Hunter Brakovec came in third. All three Quakers featured NCAA 'B' cut performances.

Su claimed first in the 200-yd freestyle at 1:37.24, also good for an NCAA 'B' cut. Stephen Marcin finished third at 1:38.80.

Penn would sweep the next four events, firmly separating itself from the field on Friday. Colin McHugh led the way in the 100-yd breaststroke at 54.23, in front of Wes Thomas and Cole Hurwitz, who all notched NCAA 'B' cut performances. 

Jameson led the charge in the 100-yd backstroke at 47.90, ahead of Grant Proctor and Mark Blinstrub as the trio also joined the Penn group of 'B' cut times. The 400-yd individual medley went to Mark Andrew, who's time of 3:49.36 was good for first. Dillinger and Proctor came second and third, while all three qualified for the NCAA 'B' cut.

Su won the 50-yd freestyle with a mark of 20.13, good for an NCAA 'B' cut time, ahead of Fisher and Austin Ryan in second and third. The night concluded with a Penn win in the 400-yd medley relay as Proctor, Thomas, Jameson and Andrew touched the wall at 3:12.71. Christopher Nicholson, Hurwitz, DeSomma and Ryan finished third at 3:16.73.

The Red and Blue maintain a 487 point lead headed into Saturday of the TPI. Preliminary competition begins at 9:30 a.m., and finals start at 5:30 p.m.
