Baseball Edged by Towson, 4-2, Saturday

Box Score

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Looking to break through for win number one this spring, the University of Pennsylvania baseball team was unable to complete its comeback, scoring two runs in the seventh inning before falling, 4-2, to Towson Saturday morning at Navy's Max Bishop Stadium.

Penn (0-5) was held quiet offensively for the majority of the game, until the seventh inning, when the Quakers pushed two runs across on a Mitch Montaldo RBI double, and Brandon Engelhardt single that scored Ryan Mincher.

Towson (8-3) scored a run in the first inning, two in the second, and an insurance run in the fifth, while mostly allowing it's pitching to control the game. The Tigers starter, freshman Bruce Zimmerman, pitched six innings allowing two runs, on five hits, while striking out eight Penn batters.

Montaldo led the Quakers offensively going two for four, with a double and run battted in, while sophomore Marshall Harden collected two hits, and senior Brandon Engelhardt added a hit and RBI.

Junior Ronnie Glenn started the game on the mound for Penn, giving up five hits and three runs early, before settling down and finishing six innings, striking out four Towson batters. Freshman Jake Cousins came on in relief for Glenn and shut down the Tigers, facing only six batters, while striking out three.

The Quakers wrap up their three games in Annapolis, tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m., facing Monmouth. The Hawks take on Navy, Saturday afternoon, before facing Penn on Sunday.
