PHILADELPHIA – After a dramatic win on Saturday to christen the new Ellen Vagelos Field, the University of Pennsylvania field hockey team had no such trouble on Sunday. The Quakers scored early and often and defeated Pacific, 7-0.

The first goal came less than five minutes into the contest, and a pair of goals just 23 seconds apart sealed the deal as Penn's lead was 5-0 by halftime. With the win, Penn improved to 4-1 on the season, its best start since 1997.

Emily Corcoran opened the scoring in the fifth minute, off a feed from Alex Iqbal, then added a second goal in the 14th minute to make it 2-0.

Pacific (2-6) -- playing its fourth game in as many days -- took a timeout, changed its goalie, and showed a bit of life out of the break. However, freshman Elise Tilton scored a pair of goals just 23 seconds apart in the 20th minute, and that seemed to break the Tigers. Elizabeth Hitti added a final tally just four minutes before halftime to close out the first-period scoring.

In the second half, both of Penn's goals came via the penalty stroke route. Julie Tahan notched the Quakers' first, and Jasmine Cole had the second.

Penn outshot Pacific, 22-7, and forced the Tigers goalies into eight saves. At the other end, Carly Sokach made two stops to earn the shutout win.

The Quakers are back in action on Wednesday, again at Ellen Vagelos Field, facing city foe La Salle at 4 p.m.
