PHILADELPHIA – The Lou and Rene Kozloff Head Coach of Swimming, Mike Schnur, announced the hiring of Megan Shaffer as an assistant coach for the program on Thursday afternoon.

Shaffer comes to University City after spending the past two seasons at Army West Point as an assistant coach.

"I am thrilled to add Megan to our coaching staff," said Schnur. "Her experiences at West Point over the past two years coincided with the incredible success both of their teams enjoyed, I am looking forward to her contributing the same energy, excitement, and knowledge to the Quakers!"

During her stint in West Point, Shaffer was an integral member of the Black Knights' coaching staff that saw consistent success. The men were crowned Patriot League champions in 2024-25 and she worked with 38 individual conference champions. Shaffer helped develop 11 NCAA qualifiers, seven All-Americans, and two Patriot League Swimmers of the Meet, while breaking 41 academy records and 20 conference records.

In addition to her coaching responsibilities, her role included logistical tasks such as writing and creating content for the team's alumni network to promote fundraising and donations.

Prior to her appointment in West Point, Shaffer began her Patriot League journey in Hamilton, N.Y. with Colgate. Serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the men's team, she helped guide the Raiders to a historic 2022-23 campaign. That season, both the men's and women's squads scored their most points at the conference championship meet since 2018 and 2016, respectively, while breaking 17 program records. The following year, Lucy Art became the first female swimmer to reach the podium at the Patriot League Championships in a decade, placing third in the 100 free. The women's side also notched a 5-3 dual-meet mark in 2023-24, their first winning season since 2017-18.

Shaffer's first taste of coaching experience came at Franklin and Marshall. Throughout the 2021-22 season, the Diplomats placed 17th at the men's NCAA Championships, marking the program's highest-ever finish at the national level. Between the men and women, 17 program records were set during the season including two conference records.

The Berwick, Pa. native was a four-time All-Landmark selection, 15-time Landmark Championship finalist, and team captain at Susquehanna University.  She graduated from Susquehanna in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in creative writing and publishing & editing.
