The Series
Penn has matched up with the Leopards 131 times in their history and holds a 78-52-1 record over that stretch. The Quakers have taken down the Leopards in their last five meetings, including a 4-0 mark during the 2025 campaign when they outscored the visitors 44-31. The hosts enter the series with a 48-25 home record against Lafayette and hold a narrow lead (29-27-1) when competing in Easton.

When both teams met last season during the LBC, Penn notched a 16-11 victory in University City.

The series started on June 14, 1882, with the Maroon and White earning a 10-6 victory.

At the Plate
Jarrett Pokrovsky went 8-for-16 at the plate across four games last week and now leads Penn with a .276 batting average. The senior co-captain has rung up 24 hits, eight RBIs and, 31 total bases through 23 starts this season, while ranking second on the team in on-base percentage (.376).

Junior outfielder Gavin Degnan enters the matchup hitting .271 and paces the Quakers in hits (26), doubles (7), RBIs (23) and runs scored (21). The Lakehurst, N.J. native has been a standout among his Ivy foes this season, ranking fourth in RBIs, seventh in doubles, seventh in runs scored, and eighth in slugging percentage (.490).

Nick Spaventa has begun to heat up at the dish recently, after he homered in all three games in New York over the weekend. The junior is hitting .255 on the season and his six home runs take the top spot in the Ivy League. Spaventa recorded six hits, eight RBIs and five runs scored en route to earning Ivy League Player of the Week honors.

Outfielder Gavin Collins found his swing against the Lions, tallying six hits, six RBIs, and four runs scored. He opened his home run account in style during Game 3 on Saturday with a grand slam that handed the Red and Blue a 6-3 lead in the third inning. Collins entered the three-game set batting .171 and has now shot up to .221.

Jay Secretarski (.269), Ryan Taylor (.227), and Ernie Echevarria (.220) round out the Quakers' batters hitting over .200.

Defensively, Penn maintains the third-best fielding percentage (.969) in the conference with 29 errors. The Quakers have caught 12 runners stealing this season, and their .667 stolen base attempt percentage leads the conference.

On the Mound
The Red and Blue's pitching remains one of the strongest in the Ivy League through three weeks of conference play, holding a 5.30 ERA. Penn has been especially solid in limiting free passes as its 98 walks are the third fewest in the Ivy League.

Junior left-hander Marty Coyne (3-3) earned his third win of the campaign in Game 2 against Columbia, and was named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week for his performance. The southpaw entered the contest in the third inning and did not allow a hit in 6.1 frames of work. Coyne retired 19 of Columbia's final 20 batters and surrendered zero walks to force a rubber-match finale. The junior improved to a 2.55 ERA, which ranks second in the conference.

Thomas Shurtleff (3-2) also came out of the bullpen against the Lions, having started in the majority of his appearances in 2026. The senior went on to pitch 6.2 frames and secured the series victory for Penn with back-to-back 1-2-3 innings in Game 3. Shurtleff holds a 4.15 ERA this season (10th in IL) and his 39.0 innings pitched come in at sixth among his Ivy foes.

Upperclassmen Coyne (35), Jake Moss (33), and Shurtleff (23) have thrown the most strikeouts for the Red and Blue, combining for 91.

Freshman left-hander Ben Moulin (1-2, 4.61) has been a consistent midweek starter for the Quakers, and is expected to see time against the Leopards.

Scouting the Leopards
Lafayette moved to 7-19 overall this past weekend, after dropping a doubleheader at home versus Bucknell on Saturday. The visitors wrap up the series with the Bison today at 3 p.m. since Sunday's contest was postponed due to weather concerns.

Prior to Saturday, the Leopards were on a five-game winning streak, sweeping Patriot League foe Holy Cross and snatching wins over Villanova and Manhattan. The 11-1 victory over the Wildcats was Lafayette's Liberty Bell Classic opener.

The Leopards have five batters hitting .200 or better, including Liam Ebbs (.313), Matt Colella (.300), Alex Barrist (.276), Boden Fernsler (.250), and Jack Mislan (.213). Colella and Barrist lead the charge with 27 hits apiece, but Ebbs is right on their tails with 26. Colella paces the visitors with 21 RBIs and Fernsler leads the team in homers (5).

Tristan Helmick (2-4, 5.72) has been the Maroon and White's ace this season with 39.1 innings pitched, ranking seventh in the Patriot League. The junior has thrown 28 strikeouts in his seven starts, but opposing batters hold a .301 average against the righthander.

James Reese (1-0, 4.66) and Owen Basso (1-1, 5.82) have appeared the most out of the bullpen for Lafayette, combining for 26.2 innings pitched.

The Leopards' pitching staff holds an 8.84 ERA, which ranks last among their Patriot League foes. Lafayette has struck out 169 batters in 26 games and has allowed a conference-worst 280 hits.
