PHILADELPHIA – The Quakers host Delaware at 3 p.m. on Tuesday for a single game at Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium. Penn is coming off a series victory against UMBC over the weekend, after it took the first and final game against the Retrievers.

The Series
Delaware currently leads the all-time series against Penn, 16-8. The Quakers' last triumph over the Blue Hens came during last year's campaign (3/8, 2-1), which marked the first time the teams met for a three-game series. The first game ever played between both schools dates back to June 12, 1917, when the Red and Blue came out on top with a 2-1 win.

Junior catcher
Qwynn Ahearn paces Penn in batting average (.375) and on-base percentage (.500) through nine games. The Woodbine, Md. native has started in five games for the Quakers, registering six hits, four RBIs and four runs scored.

Gavin Degnan is the Red and Blue's only other hitter with a batting average over .300, entering Tuesday's matchup with a .303 average. Over the series against UMBC, the outfielder rang up five RBIs and a two-run home run, while scoring four runs. Degnan leads Penn in doubles (3), home runs (2), RBIs (9) and runs scored (6).

Nick Spaventa launched his first homer of the season in game three against UMBC and is hitting .265 on the year. The junior ranks second on the team in hits (9) and total bases (15).

Defensively, the Quakers hold the second-best fielding percentage (.969) in the conference with just 10 errors.

Senior
Jake Moss leads Penn and the Ivy League with a 1.17 ERA among pitchers that have thrown 10 or more innings. Over his 15.1 frames of work, he's served up 12 strikeouts, while allowing only 13 hits and three runs. The Manhasset, N.Y. native earned his first win of the season in game one against UMBC with a season-high five strikeouts.

Despite being credited with a loss in game two against the Retrievers, junior left-hander
Marty Coyne struck out seven and let up just four hits in 6.2 innings on Saturday (3/7). He currently leads Penn in strikeouts (18) and innings pitched (16.0) through three starts on the mound. Coyne's 4.50 ERA ranks ninth among Ivy League pitchers. Â
Sophomore relievers
Connor Darling (0-0, 7.11) and
Aidan von Zuben (0-0, 5.23) each earned the first saves of their Penn careers over the weekend. Darling secured Penn's first victory of the season with a strikeout in 1.2 innings on Saturday, while von Zuben threw 3.2 scoreless innings with two strikeouts in game three on Sunday.
Senior co-captain
Thomas Shurtleff earned his first win of the season on Sunday (3/8) with three strikeouts across 5.1 innings.
Penn's 5.12 ERA ranks second in the Ivy League and it's allowed the fewest number of runs (45) in the conference. The Quakers' 77 strikeouts rank fourth in the league, and they have allowed the third-fewest hits (89) and second-fewest home runs (5) through nine contests.

Scouting the Blue Hens
Delaware enters the matchup with a 7-9 record after beginning the season with three straight losses at Elon. The Blue Hens captured their first victory of the season on Feb. 17 against La Salle, and they defeated the Explorers again on Feb. 25.
Delaware swept Rider in a three-game series two weekends ago and arrives in University City on a two-game winning streak after defeating Canisius on Saturday and Sunday.

Five hitters hold batting averages of .250 or better through 16 games for Delaware, which include Evan Bouldin (.361), Vincent Davis (.345), Jeremy Wolf (.306), Sal Mineo (.273) and LT Cockrill (.263).
Bouldin leads the team with 22 hits, five doubles and five home runs. Davis follows with 20 hits, three doubles, one triple and four home runs. The duo has recorded 16 RBIs apiece, though Davis has appeared in one fewer game.

On the mound, Elias Conway (1-1, 5.40), Ryan McLaughlin (1-1, 5.25), and Chase Deibler (1-0, 4.15) have seen the most action among UD's starters. Conway leads the pack with 17 strikeouts, while reliever Jackson Hulcher is right behind him with 15 in 12.1 innings of work.
As a team, the Blue Hens are allowing 6.58 runs per game, which ranks 10
th in the CUSA in their first season competing in the conference. Delaware is tied with FIU for allowing the highest number of walks (104) in the conference and they've thrown 130 strikeouts as a pitching staff.
