How it Happened
The Terps wasted no time getting on the board and growing a lead, when Lauren Lapointe,
Keeley Block, and Lexi Dupcak all put Maryland on the board within the first five minutes of this one.
Following a free position goal from the Terps' Kristen Shanahan, Penn found a rhythm and found the back of the net for the first time when
Lela Greene put Penn on the board.
Just before the expiration of the first quarter,
Regan O'Brien was able to whip a shot from the side and sneak it past the right post for Penn's second goal of the game.
Following the O'Brien tally, Maryland began to apply serious pressure. O'Brien found success again off the free position for her second goal of the game and the Quakers' third, but the lead for the Terps was extended to eight by the halfway mark.
The Quakers came out with a fury in the third quarter, putting three unanswered on the board courtesy of
Lela Greene,
Catherine Berkery, and
Patricia Columbia-Walsh.
Entering the fourth quarter down six, the Quakers came in with some momentum after a favorable third frame. Penn would grab three more goals in the quarter, but Maryland slowed things down and put three more on the board of their own to seal the deal.
