PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania baseball team makes its way down the East Coast this weekend for a three-game series against East Carolina in Greenville, N.C.
The weekend slate marks the first meeting between the two programs in their respective histories. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Lewis Field at Clark-LeClair Stadium. Saturday's matchup will start at 2 p.m. and the series concludes with a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday.
Penn enters the weekend with two wins in its last four matchups, taking two of three games against UMBC prior to falling to Delaware on Tuesday.

Pitcher of the Year Watch List
Junior left-hander
Marty Coyne was tabbed to the College Baseball Hall of Fame's 2026 National Pitcher of the Year Watch List on Wednesday. The Hockessin, Del. native currently paces the Quakers with 18 strikeouts in 16 innings pitched, which ranks third in the Ivy League.Â
At the Plate

Qwynn Ahearn has started at catcher in six games this season for the Quakers and is leading the team with a .444 batting average. In Penn's latest action against Delaware, the junior went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI while also drawing a walk.
*Junior outfielder
Gavin Degnan holds a .278 batting average and leads the Red and Blue in hits (10), home runs (2), RBIs (9) and total bases (19).
*First baseman
Nick Spaventa also enters the weekend with double-digit hits (10), while pacing the Quakers with four doubles and five walks drawn.
*Freshman
Jay Secretarski and senior
Ryan Taylor have both stolen three bags this campaign, which accounts for over 40 percent of Penn's stolen bases (42.9 percent).
*Secretarski (.250),
Michael Powell (.231) and Spaventa (.256) are Penn's only other hitters heading to East Carolina with a batting average over .200.
On the Mound
*Penn used seven pitchers in its midweek matchup with the Blue Hens, which featured 2026 debuts for
John Cerwinski,
Braden Fridgen and
Thomas Egbert.
*Senior right-hander
Jake Moss holds a 1.17 ERA through three starts this season, ranking second among his Ivy League foes. He's thrown 12 strikeouts in 15.1 innings pitched and allowed only three runs during that stretch. Moss' season-high five strikeouts led Penn to its first win of the season against UMBC (3/7).
*Coyne leads the Quakers with 18 strikeouts, and he'll look to continue his early success this weekend after being placed on the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Pitcher of the Year Watch List. Coyne has only walked two hitters in 62 at-bats this season, which leads the Ivy League and ranks 44
th in the nation.
*Freshman right-hander
Nick Newburn is the only Penn player to have thrown more than five innings (6.2) and still boast a 0.0 ERA.

Aidan von Zuben and
Connor Darling are expected to remain as the Red and Blue's first arms out of the bullpen.
Scouting the Pirates
East Carolina comes into the weekend with a 10-7-1 record after notching recent wins against UNC Wilmington, No. 16 Coastal Carolina and Old Dominion. The Pirates traveled to William & Mary on Wednesday where they earned a dominant 24-3 victory, their third in a row.
Through 18 games, four hitters are batting over .300, including Walker Barron (.419), Braden Burress (.418), Jack Herring (.349) and Austin Irby (.338). Burress has rung up a team-leading 28 hits, followed by 22 from Herring and Irby. Carlos Jacome, Grady Lenahan, Herring and Irby all have registered two home runs.
On the hill, sophomore right-hander Sean Jenkins (2-0, 1.77) boasts a team-best 1.77 ERA and is responsible for wins over then-No. 11 North Carolina and Charleston. Jenkins has pitched 20.1 innings for the Pirates from the bullpen and logged 28 strikeouts. Gavin Van Kempen (1-1, 2.18) and Ethan Norby (4.66, 1-1) have both made four starts for East Carolina and combined for 57 strikeouts.
The Pirates enter the series with a pitching staff ERA of 4.23 over 146.2 innings. Starters Van Kempen, Norby, Colby Weber (1-0, 5.09), Brett Antolick (1-1, 7.27), and Ryan Towers (1-0, 7.56) have allowed 49 runs this season, while the entire staff has struck out 165 batters.
