Oji, Abinusawa Dominate Ivy League Indoor T&F Championships

NEW YORK, NY - The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's track & field teams closed out the Ivy League Indoor Championships on Sunday at The Armory. Freshman Jessica Oji was named the women's Most Outstanding Field Performer, breaking the all-time Ivy League record in shot put. 
 
Oji recorded four clean attempts, with her first-round mark of 18.50m (60' 8.50") setting the tone for a dominant gold-medal performance. Angeludi Asaah took silver at 16.14m (52' 11.50"). 
 
Fore Abinusawa was awarded the women's Co-Outstanding Track Performer title winning both the 60m (7.25) and 200m (23.30). Abinusawa broke the Ivy League 60m record in the prelims on day one clocking in at 7.22. 
 
Broken Records
Freshman Tiago Socarras broke his own 1000m school record crossing the finish line first at 2:20.13, winning his first Ivy League title. Socarras went on to claim a second gold medal running the anchor leg of the 4x800m clocking in a time of 7:30.32, running with Nicholas DeVita, Vinay Raman, and Nicolas Pizarro
 
Shane Gardner claimed silver in the 60m hurdles recording a personal-best time of 7.69, program record. Ryan Matulonis finished fifth at 7.99. 

Matulonis broke the program record in the men's 500m clocking in second with a time of 1:01.17. Benjamin Markham placed third with a personal-best time of 1:02.00. 

The women's 4x800 relay team of Adele Martin, L'Mio Edwards, Maggie McCabe, and Quin Stovall won silver, breaking the school-record with a time of 8:43.38. 

Stovall recorded a personal-best 800m time of 2:05.30, placing second. Martin placed second in the women's 1000m with a personal-best time of 2:47.85. 
 
On Top of the Podium
Jake Rose defended his heptathlon title finishing first in five of seven events across the two-day championship meet. Rose placed first in the 60m, long jump, shot put, 60m hurdles, and pole vault to score 5669 points. 
 
Matthew Kathiravelu won the men's triple jump with a second-round mark of 15.60m (51' 2.25"). 
 
Penn swept the 400m with Nayyir Newash-Campbell placing first in the men's race with a time of 46.41. Freshman Jailyn Milord claimed gold in the women's race with a time of 53.58. Simone Castelluccio won bronze at 54.70. 
 
Senior Kampton Kam became a three-time indoor high jump champion clearing 2.12m (6' 11.5"). Mark Hellwig tied for second with the bar set a 2.02m (6' 7.50"), and Oliver Hassard placed fourth. Zofia Limbert finished second in the women's field clearing 1.74m (5' 8.50"). 
 
Relays
Alexa Matora, Milan Ramey, Izzy Rodriguez, and Lily Murphy place second in the women's distance medley relay crossing the line at 11:19.50. 
 
Markham, Nayyir Newash-Campbell, Alec Jackson, Matulonis wrapped up the day winning the men's 4x400m relay stopping the clock at 3:09.44. The women's team of Simone Castelluccio, Sofia Swindell, Rianna Floyd, and Giuliana Ligor took third at 3:39.89. 
 
Final Standings
Penn men finished second scoring 136 points, the women placed second scoring of 168 points. Both teams recorded the highest team scores in program history.
