PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men's squash team had four players named to All-Ivy teams, including
Omar Hafez who was named Ivy League Player of the Year.
The three players who were selected to the First Team All-Ivy are
Omar Hafez,
Salman Khalil and
Marwan Abdelsalam.
Hafez adds more accolades to a historic senior season with the Quakers as he became the all-time wins leader in program history, won the CSA Individuals Championship and now has been named Ivy League Player of the Year. The senior captain led the Red and Blue this season with a 12-1 record in team competition and 17-1 overall, winning all twelve of his matches in the first position of the lineup.
Salman Khalil was named First Team All-Ivy after a stellar junior season where he finished second in overall wins with a 13-2 record at the end of the regular season. He also finished with an undefeated 6-0 record in Ivy League play this season, winning all six matches in the second position of the lineup. This is Khalil's third All-Ivy nod of his career, following his First Team All-Ivy selection last season.
Abdelsalam followed up his Ivy League Rookie of the Year season with another outstanding year in his sophomore stint with the Quakers. He finished with an 11-4 overall record for Penn this season, going 5-1 in Ivy League play. He also had an outstanding run at CSA Individuals, advancing to the quarterfinals after three straight wins.
Freshman
Alex Dartnell was named Second Team All-Ivy in his first season with the Quakers after finishing the regular season with a 10-4 overall record. He also represented Penn at CSA Individuals, defeating Dartmouth's Arihant K S in the first round before falling to teammate
Salman Khalil in the second round.
Head Coach
Gilly Lane and his staff were also named Ivy League Coaching Staff of the Year after finishing the regular season at the top of the conference with a 12-2 overall record, 5-1 in conference play. Lane and his staff hope to carry on the same success heading into the postseason as the Quakers look to win their third straight national championship.
Senior
Hao Cui has also been named Academic All-Ivy after his outstanding performance in the classroom this year.
