PHILADELPHIA — The University of Pennsylvania men's and women's squash teams took down Harvard on Valentine's Day at the Penn Squash Center, both by 6-3 scores.
The men's team recorded their fourth win in a row and are now tied for first place in the Ivy League standings with Yale, both sporting 4-1 conference records. The women remain second behind Princeton and hold out hope that the Crimson can recover to defeat the Tigers tomorrow. If that happens, and Penn beats Dartmouth, the Quakers will share the regular-season title with Princeton and Harvard.
Omar Hafez and
Salman Khalil swept their opponents in the first and second positions Saturday, while
Marwan Abdelsalam and
Alex Dartnell secured 3-1 victories in the third and fourth spots.
Zane Patel,
Rehan Luthra and
Varun Chitturi rounded out the last three wins for the Quakers as the team clinched a spot in the Ivy League Tournament.
The women's team bounced back after last week's loss to Princeton and won their 12th match of the season.
Malak Khafagy swept Harvard's Caroline Fouts in the first position, earning her 10th win of the season, while
Sohaila Ismail and
Allie Stoddard secured wins in the fourth and fifth positions.
Hailey Wong,
Ashna Tumuluri and
Savannah Ingledew capped off the 6-3 win for the Red and Blue as the women now sit in second place in the Ivy League standings.
